Jubal C. Yennie, Director of Schools, announced the appointments of three principals for the 2013-2014 school year. Brent Palmer will lead Sullivan North High School,  Wayne King will lead North Middle School, and Dr. Darrell Moore will lead Sullivan Gardens K-8.  Mr. Palmer "brings an enthusiasm and a passion for learning, and students and faculty will have an immediate affinity for Mr. Palmer.  He will continue to build on the academic improvement that we have seen at Sullivan North for the past couple years as well as continue the tradition of athletic performance".  Yennie said Mr. King will provide stability and caring for a school community that has seen a number of changes during the past few years.  "Mr. King is enthusiastic for the new challenge and ready to get to work."  Yennie also stated "Dr. Moore brings strong leadership for the Sullivan Gardens community."

Brent Palmer has worked in the Sullivan County School District for the past 9 years as band director for Sullivan South for 7 years and as assistant principal at Sullivan South for the past 2 years.  Mr. Palmer states "he looks forward to working at Sullivan North High School and is excited about the opportunity to work with the good people of the Sullivan North community".

Wayne King has worked in the Sullivan County school district since 1982, serving over the course of his career as teacher, coach, middle school assistant principal and principal and high school assistant principal.  Mr. King says, "I am looking forward to working with students, staff and parents at North Middle School to continue building positive relationships in the North Zone."

Dr. Darrell Moore has a background in business and has worked for the past 14 years in the Sullivan County school district.  He has worked as a teacher and administrative assistant at Indian Springs Elementary and, most recently, as assistant principal of Sullivan Gardens K-8.  Dr. Moore states, "I am extremely excited about the future and looking forward to continuing to serve the community of Sullivan Gardens as principal of Sullivan Gardens K-8."

kylie burkey

Skills USA1

Kylie Burkey a rising Senior at Central took the Gold Medal in Cosmetology with more than 15000 people in attendance.  Kylie had to take two written exams, an oral interview, a man's cut, a women's design cut, a procedural 90 degree haircut and an intricate long hair design all within time constraints to beat the best students this nation has to offer and she did it.  The competition has been in existence for 49 years and this is the first time Tennessee has brought home the gold.

Britany Johnson placed 5th in the Nation with her beautiful Nail Art and skills in Acrylic and Gel Nail Enhancements.  Britany had to take two written tests, an oral interview, Acrylic Nails, Gel Nails, a pedicure and Nail Art. Again Britany's work had to be done in time constraints and was done beautifully.

Hunter Fitzgerald, Blake Stratton and Jordie Hill took 8th for their construction of a Chapter Display.

SCBE Approves Pay based Pre K at 3 Elementary Schools

Students may register for a pay based PreK program for children who will be 3 or 4 years old on or before August 31st.  PreK students will be taught the standards based on Tennessee and National Core Curriculum.  These are the skills for PreK that are needed to be successful for Kindergarten.  The discovery approach uses guides learning in an active, constructive process, which promotes thinking and problem solving skills in a nurturing environment.  PreK classes may be held at Central Heights, Miller Perry and Rock Springs Elementary.
