  • Rock Springs Elementary:
    Erin Musick and Maura Nicholson auditioned and were selected to participate in the Tennessee Treble Honor Choir.  They traveled to Chattanooga, TN for a full day of rehearsals and the following morning performed for music educators from all over the state.  Maura and Erin were among 130+ 5th and 6th graders in Tennessee chosen to perform.  Maura and Erin are 5th grade students at Rock Springs Elementary in Mrs. Haynes class.  Lee Whitson is their music teacher.
     

 

SCOPE

The following student delegates from Sullivan County attended the 2013 TSBA SCOPE Conference in Murfreesboro on March 11.  Approximately 350 high school students joined their peers to express their views on public education in Tennessee.

FIRST Robotics

NORTH JROTC

  • Program has received the Distinguished Unit Award for the 20th year

 

SOUTH JROTC 

  • Jacob Tilley - attending USAF Academy
  • Heath Ryans - joined the Air Force Nation Guard at McGhee Tyson
  • Ben Firth - attending TN Tech, top robotics student, squadron commander and published in the field of astronomy
  • Solo students this year:  Ben Firth, Aaron Peters, Heath Ryans, Sam Johnson, Jacob Tilley
  • AJ Vines - class of 2008, from Colonel Powley:  "I was flying yesterday at TRI (30 Apr) with a teacher from South and was number two behind a US Air Dash 8 - I heard "Hey Colonel this is AJ in the Dash 8"  AJ was my solo student and first private pilot at South.  The teacher was mighty impressed that he was one of my former students.  I was too."
  • Austin Moody - class of 2010 is starting a career in music.  He will be performing at a benefit concert on May 9th, 7:00 p.m. at Niswonger.

    The United States Airforce requested a move to a 10-month contract rather than a 12-month contract.  The Board has chosen to keep the 12-month contract at this time.

    The Board voted to consider a rezoning scenario that has been presented by the community.  Any vote on rezoning has been postponed until at least September 2013.
