Dr. Yennie Recognized as Tennessee PTA's Outstanding Director of Schools


Dr. Yennie was recognized as Tennessee PTA's Outstanding Director of Schools.  Dr. Yennie holds quarterly meetings with the PTA Presidents, Vice Presidents, and principals to discuss, select, and maintain ways to improve communication between school and home and to address important issues such as budget and safety.  Dr. Yennie encourages principals to actively engage in the PTA for the enrichment of the school program.  Dr. Yennie was nominated by Miller Perry PTA.
 

Sullivan South Recognized Nationally by U.S. News Best High Schools 2013 at the Bronze Level
Congratulations to Sullivan South for being nationally recognized int the U.S. News Best High Schools 2013 at the Bronze level.  Out of all Tennessee high schools, five were awarded gold medals, eighteen were awarded silver, and 66 received bronze.  To see complete Tennessee rankings, please click here.


Rock Springs 2nd Graders Space Unit Projects

Second graders in Mrs. Overbay's class at Rock Springs "blasted off into space" with their unit on outer space.  Students were given many choices for the culminating solar system project and they came through with creative ways to present their knowledge.  Students presented their projects and solar system facts and enjoyed a "space parade" as they presented projects to Kindergarten and First Grade Classes.



Bluff City Elementary and Middle Students Cast as Extras in Movie 42
Tyson Mitchell of Bluff City Elementary and Casondra Mitchell of Bluff City Middle School were extra's in the movie "42" that is now in theaters.  The movie is about Jackie Robinson, starring Harrison Ford and Chadwick Boseman.  They filmed at the beginning of last summer in Chattanooga, TN at the historic Engel Stadium where the Chattanooga Lookouts used to play.  Tyson and Casondra found it very exciting to be part of this historic film and they enjoyed watching themselves on the big screen as part of the crowd scenes at the baseball games.  Tyson also filmed a short film this year in Atlanta called "Ruined" where he had a speaking role.  It's due out sometime next year.
Indian Springs 4th Grader Recieves 3rd Place in National Cornbread Festival 4-H Cook-Off

Dakota Buckingham, 4th grader at Indian Springs Elementary, received 3rd place in the National Cornbread Festival 4-H Cook-Off on Saturday, April 27, in South
Pittsburg, TN. She was one of 9 finalists who prepared their recipe on stage.  She won $100, but seems to be proudest of her little bronze skillet medal!  CONGRATULATIONS, DAKOTA!!  Your ISE family is so proud of you!!
Sullivan Central FBLA Members Advancing to Nationals

Sullivan Central Future Business Leaders of America club members traveled to State Competition in Chattanooga, April 8 - 10. Twelve members traveled with their club advisors Mrs. Sherrie Spiegler, Mrs. Becky Smith, and Mrs. Ginger Shackelford. Nine of the 12 members placed first or second in their competition qualifying them to advance to the National competition in Anaheim, CA in late June.

 

Juniors Kendra Vanover and Courtney Poister won first place in Business Financial Plan. This team had to prepare a report no more than 15 pages detailing how they would purchase the entire inventory to meet the individual needs of customers in a full service pet spa called Pampered Pooches in an upscale urban area. The spa must provide grooming services, doggie daycare, obedience training, upscale bakery treats, and party planning services as well as overnight kennel facilities. The booklet was mailed to the state judges Courtney also had to prepare a seven minute presentation about their Business Financial Plan to present before the judges.  

 

 

Colonial Heights Middle School STEM Project

Students in Mr. McMeans STEM class at Colonial Heights Middle School were given only straws and tape and asked to build the tallest structure possible while maintaining the smallest perimeter. 


Ryley Hall and Brogran Presley build a structure reaching 8'6" tall with a perimeter of 14".  This project has been done by chemical engineers as a training and team building exercise.

 Sullivan North High NJROTC Promotion Ceremony

Sullivan North High School Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp (NJROTC) unit is pleased to announce the promotion of Cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade Logan Shaffer to the rank of Lieutenant.  Cadet Shaffer has just completed a successful year as company commander and is now awaiting a new assignment within the unit.  Officiating in this ceremony was former Lieutenant Tommy Holtzclaw and looking on were his grandmother Mrs. Ann Holtzclaw and mother and father - Sherry and Tim Shaffer.  Logan has expressed a keen interest in pursuing an appointment to one of the service academies upon graduation from high school.

 

 

Cadet of the Month 

 

Cadet Second Class Petty Officer Caleb Hance has been selected as the cadet of the month for April 2013.  Caleb is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Hance.  He is an active member of the unit's drill team and was recently promoted to his present rank and made great progress during this school year.  Caleb has several years before he must make a definite decision on his future but is looking at all possibilities before making a firm decision.
