Admiral Mewborne visits Sullivan North Virtually

The Sullivan North High School Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp (NJROTC) unit recently had the privilege of meeting with Admiral Mewborne via skype.  Admiral Mewborne has recently assumed command of Naval Service Training Command headquarted at Great Lakes Naval Station.  Admiral Mewborne has established a goal of visiting JROTC and NROTC units under his control which includes visits to some locations via skype.  Sullivan North was the first local school to conduct such a visit and only the fourth thus far.  Admiral Mewborne entertained numerous questions from cadets ranging from the impact of the current budget sequestration, to facts regarding his career and plans for the future.  Admiral Mewhouse was presented with a unit shirt and challenge coins at the conclusion of the presentation and promoted Senior Chief Branson Burks to the rank of Master Chief.

Sullivan East Track and Field News
Sullivan East participated in the inaugural Tri-Cities Classic at Science Hill, bringing a limited

limited number of athletes to the event. The East boys 4x800 relay consisting of Dalton Hudlow, Zach Warren, Shane Stafford and Luke Meade, finished 7th in a time of 8:43 which seeds them as the #7 team in the Tri-Cities area all divisions TN & VA. All seeded individuals and relays will be competing at the Times- News Relays next Friday.

Luke Meade won the second heat of the 1600m (mile) in a time of 4:33 placing 8th overall. Dalton Hudlow finished in a time of 4:45 and is also hoping to qualify for the Times-News Relays.

The conditions were challenging for the jumpers and while Jordan James did not have the day he was hoping for he still managed to finish 7th by clearing 6' in the high jump. He is presently one of the top A-AA jumpers in the state with his height of 6'-4" and he will be chasing after the school record of 6'- 5 & 3/4".

Other qualifiers for the Times News Relays include Autumn Rowe with a discuss throw of 99"-8', the girls 4x400 & 4x800 of Annie Malcom, Christina Perry, Jen Warren, and Kara Stafford.  We would like to congratulate these fine young ladies and gentlemen and thank everyone for supporting our team.
