  •  The State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE) invites you to join our Community Conversation in Johnson City on Thursday, April 4 from 5 t 6:40 p.m. at the Millennium Centre. The discussion will be focused on the work over the last year that has enabled your community to make significant improvements in student achievement and how progress can continue. This conversation is open to the public and will be moderated by a panel that includes Dr. Sharon Roberts, Chief Operating Officer from SCORE, and superintendents, teachers, principals, parents, and business leaders from northeast Tennessee.  

     

Board Vice-Chairman Report:

  • The Sullivan County Department of Education has postponed any vote on possible school rezoning plans for at least six (6) months. We will provide a public notice of 45 days before a Board of Education meeting in which a rezoning vote would take place. We will post announcements regarding rezoning on the Department of Education website - http://www.sullivank12.net/ as well as provide announcements to local media. Additional communication will be delivered by an automated telephone call and sent home to parents of Sullivan County students.

The following items were approved at tonight's Board Meeting:
  • Policy 4.209 Alternative Credit Options - Adoption on 3rd Reading
  • Policy 5.302 Sick Leave - Adoption on 3rd Reading
  • Policy 2.804 Expenses and Reimbursements - Adoption on 3rd Reading  
  • Policy 2.807 Requisitions - Adoption on 3rd Reading
  • Policy 3.215 Board Inspection and Acceptance of New Facilities -Approval on 2nd Reading
  • Policy 3.202 Emergency Preparedness Plan - Approval on 2nd Reading
  • Policy 5.113 In-Service and Professional Learning Opportunities -Approval on 2nd Reading
  • Policy 6.201 Compulsory Attendance Ages - Approval on 2nd Reading

    This would provide an additional position at the Central office to supervise district security operations. - Tabled until the next board meeting

  • Approval of Common Student Fees for 2013-2014
  • New Course Approval - iOS App Developer  
  • Spring 2013 "Scope of Work" Amendment (Race to the Top) - Tabled until the next board meeting 
  • Sullivan North and Sullivan South thanked the Board for supporting their robotics programs.  Both schools placed in the top 20 out of 50 in the U.S. First Robotics regional competition
