Kindergarten and PreK Registration |
On Tuesday, March 19, 2013, Sullivan County Elementary Schools will register all Kindergarten and PreK students who will be attending Sullivan County Schools during the 2013-14 school year. As a reminder, students must turn five (5) on or before August 31, 2013 to be eligible for Kindergarten and they must turn four (4) on our before August 31 to be eligible for PreK. To register a child for school, parents need to bring: - Birth Certificate with the State Seal
- Immunization Record on Tennessee Form
- Physical Examination by Tennessee Doctor
- Child's Social Security Number
- Proof of Residence
Questions may be directed to the local school or to the Sullivan County Department of Education at 354-1000. |
Sullivan East HOSA at State Competition
| 10 members of East High HOSA attended the TN State HOSA Competition. They had a 2nd place Medalist in the Medical Term Spelling Category, Emily Brady (Freshman) and a 4th place winner in the Dental Term Spelling Category, Anna Cornelius (Senior).

Bluff City Elementary Students Wins Writing Contest
|
Bluff City Elementary Student Kendall Arnold recently won a writing contest!! Kendall wrote a newspaper article from the perspective of someone who was there when Mt. Vesuvius erupted. This writing was based upon a story that the class read from Scholastic's Storyworks Magazine. Way to go, Kendall!!!!

Rock Springs Elementary All Pro Dads
| Rock Springs Elementary School held their first All Pro Dads event this week with over 170 participants. This monthly breakfast is held before school where fathers and their children can meet with other dads and children at their school. Sullivan North Student Council Recognized as 4-Star Student Council
|

The Sullivan North High School Student Council has been recognized as a state 4-Star Student Council by the Tennessee Association of Student Councils. North's council received this award at the state convention held at Ravenwood High School March 1-3. Sullivan North is the only school to receive this award in the area east of Knoxville. This is the tenth consecutive year that this council has received this distinction. Sullivan North's student council completed over thirty projects this year in various areas such as school spirit, leadership, teacher appreciation, and community service. In addition, the council attended regional and state leadership workshops. The student council is composed of forty-four elected members. It is led by student body President Amelia Cannon, Vice President Xavier Hall, Secretary Kaitlyn McPhink, Treasurer Delayna Steadman. Mrs. Debbie Redman and Mrs. Suzanne Demming serve as council advisors.

Sullivan South AFROTC Tours McGhee Tyson ANG Base -submitted by C/SRA Alyssa Peters |
 | Sullivan South AFROTC cadets went to McGhee-Tyson ANG Base on March 7. Cadets were taken on a tour of a KC-135 built in 1959 stationed on the base. The main missions of the aircraft include refueling as well as cargo and troop transport. The crew showed cadets the various components of the aircraft, including the boom operators station, cockpit, and cargo hold bay. After the tour, students went to the base's mess hall and partook of "the Air Force's finest eating establishment in the country." |

Sullivan North Conducts Workshop for Kids at Annual Home Show
|
Sullivan North's CTE classes, Mr. Dennis Smith's Machining and Mr. Charles Hubbard's Construction class which are members of the Kingsport Home Builders Assoc. Conducted a workshop for kids during the Annual Home Show at the Meadowview Conference center on March. 2nd.
Mr. Hubbard's classes cut out a tool box and a stool that kids could assemble with the help of CTE / Skills USA students. Mr. Smith's class routed the stools using their CNC milling machine.

Rock Springs Elementary Harlem Globetrotters Visit
| Jett Williams, Harlem Globetrotters, visited Rock Springs to discuss the ABC's of bullying. A=Action, B=Bravery, C=Compassion. He told students that it takes all three to stop and prevent bullying.

Sullivan North Military Ball
|

The Sullivan North High School Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp (NJROTC) unit held its annual military ball on Saturday, March 9th. This event was attended by over 100 students and parents and represented schools from Daniel Booone, Cherokee, Lee County, Sullivan East, and Sullivan South as well as Sullivan North. The event was held at the TN Army National Guard Facility in Mount Carmel. The military ball is a time honored tradition and is the only formal event offered to cadets in the NJROTC program each year. Selected as Queen of the Ball was Cadet Chief Petty Officer Brianna Berry and princesses were Karman Browder and Cierra Fitzgerald.

Sullivan South Band to Host Carolina Indoor Performance Association Competitions | Sullivan South High School Rebel Band will be hosting a Carolina Indoor Performance Association (CIPA) this Saturday, March 16thbeginning at 3:00. The competition will include both Winter Guard and Drumline teams. There are 21 schools participating, representing 4 states. The public is invited to attend. Admission is $5.
