Kindergarten and PreK Registration |
On Tuesday, March 19, 2013, Sullivan County Elementary Schools will register all Kindergarten and PreK students who will be attending Sullivan County Schools during the 2013-14 school year. As a reminder, students must turn five (5) on or before August 31, 2013 to be eligible for Kindergarten and they must turn four (4) on our before August 31 to be eligible for PreK. To register a child for school, parents need to bring: - Birth Certificate with the State Seal
- Immunization Record on Tennessee Form
- Physical Examination by Tennessee Doctor
- Child's Social Security Number
- Proof of Residence

Special Education Coordinators Invited to Present in Memphis, TN
| Special Education Coordinators Dr. Karen Davis and Mrs. Kristie Robinette have been invited to be presenters for special education teachers in Memphis, TN. Dr. Davis and Mrs. Robinette's presentation The Standards Based IEP Process: Hitting the Target was highlighted on the Tennessee Department of Education Website.

Miller Perry Elementary Fuel Up to Play 60 Poster Contest
| Miller Perry students have been involved in an in-school nutrition and physical activity program, Fuel Up to Play 60. The program partners with Coordinated School Health, the National Dairy Council, and the National Football League. Students participated in a poster contest "Power Behind the Play" that was open to all students, grades K-5. Students were challenged to show through words and art how low-fat and fat-free dairy helps to power their daily physical activities.
Congratulations to the following winners: Noah Malik, 1st Grade; Navaeh Janulis, 3rd Grade; Kasia Oliver, 4th Grade; and Lily Hammonds, 5th grade.
Fuel Up to Play 60 is helping to make wellness part of the game plan in more than 70,000 schools in the United States. Sullivan South Concert Band and East Tennessee State University Concert Band Collaborative Concert
| ETSU Concert Band and the Sullivan South Concert Band will have a collaborative concert at the Eastman Employee Center on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 7:30 PM. The public is encouraged to attend.

Sullivan Gardens 6th and 7th Grades to Perform Aesop's Fable's and Red vs Wolf Mini-Plays | Sixth and seventh grade classes at Sullivan Gardens K-8 have put together two mini-plays that will be performed for elementary and middle school classes at the school. Sixth graders will perform Aesop's Fable's, in which students will bring to life approximately ten of the fables. Students have focused on character development for their performances. Seventh graders will perform Red vs Wolf in a storytelling piece that presents both sides of the classic tale. Students will present Red-Riding Hood's perspective as well as the wolf's perspective in this mini-play. For more information, please contact Mrs. Buttolph, Sullivan Gardens Performing Arts 6-8.

Sullivan South Air Force ROTC Orientation Flights
|
Cadets Brandon Smith, Nicole Ridings, Trey Allison, Hailey Moore, Aylah Moody, Davey Knott, Zach Davidson, Hannah Moody, Daysia Boyd, Conor Clare, Abby Bishop, and Logan Malone, had their orientation flights in a Cessna-172 at Tri-Cities airport on 29 January, bringing the total to 5873 passengers flown as part of the Flight Program run out of Air Force Junior ROTC at Sullivan South.

U.S. NAVY P-8 POSEIDON |
The United States Navy will position one of their newest aircraft at the Tri Cities Regional Airport on Wednesday - 13 March. The aircraft is assigned to Patrol Squadron 16 home based in Jacksonville, Florida. The primary mission of the aircraft is to search for submarines (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW) and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR). Patrol Squadron 16 is the US Navy's first P-8A Poseidon operational squadron and currently has two of the aircraft in their inventory. The P8 is the replacement for the P3 Orion and is built by Boeing Aircraft. The aircraft has an overall length of 129 ft and a wing span of 123 feet. It can operate at over 490 knots at altitudes of over 40,000 feet. -Submitted by Sullivan North NJROTC |
