STEM Students at Emmett Elementary Research Pond Organisms in Bucket Buddies Project

Second and third grade STEM students at Emmett Elementary participated in "Bucket Buddies," a world wide research project studying organisms that live in pond water.   Researchers want to know if the organisms found in Bristol, TN pond water will be the same as the organisms found in other places.

Mrs. Buchanan, their STEM teacher, collected water from a pond located near the Bristol Motor Speedway. Students used hand lenses and microscopes to identify organisms found in the water.   They also used identification keys and the book Pond Life to help with identification. Students developed a hypothesis stating that the organisms found in our pond water would be different than those found in other places because of different climates.

Students plan to compare results with other schools to develop our conclusion. You can see the organisms we found at http://ciese.org/curriculum/bucketproj/gallery/.

Rock Springs Elementary Chorus Students Selected to Participate in the Tennessee Treble Honor Choir

Congratulations to Erin Musick and Maura Nicholson, 5th grade students at Rock Springs, for being selected to participate in The Tennessee Treble Honor Choir.

Erin and Maura were among hundreds of 5th and 6th grade students from TN who auditioned in October to make the choir.  They will be performing in Chattanooga, Tn at the opening session of The Tennessee Music Education Association Conference for music educators across the state.

Times News NIE Ripley's Creative Writing Contest Winners
Congratulations to Jacob Osborne, 5th grade, Blountville Elementary School for being selected as a winner in the Times News NIE Ripley's Creative Writing Contest.  Jacob's teacher is Ms. Sandra Price. Students were asked to write about a time when they were given the chance for a new beginning and how it made them feel.  The two winners will receive 30 admission tickets each to take their classmates to the Ripley's Aquarium.
Sullivan North JROTC Cadets Participate in Confidence Course
Several Cadets from Sullivan North recently participated in the Ropes/Confidence Course at Bays Mountain Park.  Participation required confidence in your teammates and an ability to work together as a team to complete the routine.  Bays Mountain Park offers two levels of course one that is 40 feet above ground and the other that is 23 feet above ground.  Both require different skills but test your ability to work as a team to reach the other side.       The course concludes with a zip line to the end of the course.
