We have passed the mid-point of the first nine weeks and progress reports have been sent home this week.  Students are having wonderful conversations with their teachers and parents, setting goals, and taking ownership of their learning.  Many parents will have the opportunity to listen to their children explain their progress during Parent/Teacher Conferences next week,  which are scheduled to be held on September 27.  If you are interested in a conference, please contact your child's teacher to schedule a time.

Emmett Elementary Students Take Ownership of Learning through Student-Led Data Conferences.

Emmett Elementary School 3rd - 5th grade teachers held data conferences with each student on Wednesday, September 19th. Teachers and students:

        • Discussed individual student data
        • Reviewed strengths and areas to strengthen
        • Set personal goals
        • Brainstormed for steps to take on the path toward improvement and reaching those goals.

Teachers also used IPADS to teach students how to access Jupiter Grades, a portal where students and families can check on academic progress at home.

Emily, fourth grade student, reflected on the conference: "It made me feel good to see my grades and scores so I can do better than last year."

This concept stemmed from collaboration with other elementary schools at the Sullivan County Summer Data Academy.

Blountville Middle Students Rewarded for EPIC Behavior

Students at Blountville Middle School were rewarded for their EPIC behavior on Friday September 14th.  Related Arts teachers instituted a reward system this year which rewards EPIC behavior (desired behavior) every  grading period.  Students were allowed to choose activities to participate in during their Related Arts block.  Activities provided were technology access, Creative Art classes, corn hole, Frisbee tossing, Karaoke, volleyball and individual study. Blountville Middle School is creating a positive atmosphere through desired behavior using the EPIC model. Students and teachers alike enjoyed this rewarding day!

Sullivan North High School Food Drive

Sullivan North High School conducted their annual canned food drive during the three day period of 19-21 September.    Over 10,000 boxes of Ramen Noodles in addition to hundreds of items of varies non perishable food sources were collected.   On the lighter side, the market price of Ramen Noodles have obviously spiked due to the recent demand for this product and shelves are likely bare in many of our markets.     The entire student body participated in this collection effort  in the hopes that those less fortunate may benefit.
