We hope everyone has had a wonderful first week back in school.  One of our goals this year is to improve our communication for parents and staff.  This newsletter reaches more than 6,000 people each week.  Please let your friends and neighbors know that they can be added to our weekly distribution list by signing up to receive the newsletter.  Parents can also sign up to receive important school information by communicating their phone number and email address to their child's school.  This newsletter goes out every Friday and after every board meeting.

Ketron Elementary School

Ketron Elementary school opened welcoming over 750 students back to school this week.  The STEM school serves all students in grades pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade in the North zone.  Students are in their classrooms and learning with excitement while final touches are being completed around the school daily.

Innovation Academy Back to School
At Innovation Academy, students have been building balloon powered cars with Eastman engineers, analyzing water samples from IA's creek with Domtar scientists, suturing bananas with Wellmont nurses, and learning to use their iPads with the technology experts from Kingsport City and Sullivan County School Systems and ETSU.  Students are kicking off a new school year by learning from the experts of our region.

Miller Perry Elementary Ribbon Cutting
Miller Perry Elementary School held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new murals decorating the hallways and library of the school as well as the new floor in the upper hallway.  Two artists worked with Miller Perry donating a great deal of time and energy to beautify the school and make it a happier place for students.

Sullivan Gardens K-8 School

We are happy to announce that Sullivan Elementary and Sullivan Middle were merged and are now Sullivan Gardens K-8 School! The buildings share a principal , Zada Church; an assistant principal, Darrell Moore; a librarian, Suzanne Minga; and a guidance counselor, Linda Debord. Grades 6 - 8 will stay in the lower building for now but some day they will be moved into one building. We are still the Pirates and our colors will stay blue and gold!

Sullivan North Middle School

Sullivan North Middle School opened this year after extensive renovation over the summer.  The hallmark renovation projects include a new state of the art STEM lab which will house the school's Project Lead the Way program as well as a new office and reception area.  Principal Thomas Bowers and Assistant Principal Jackie Wolfe welcomed students on Monday.
