Welcome Back!
Sullivan County Schools starts this school year with a number of positive changes both in facilities and improvements in our curriculum and instructional programs.  Sullivan County students did exceptionally well last year on the TCAP tests and we have made important changes to help our students learn even more this year.  One of our important goals is to communicate more frequently, so please expect about two school messenger phone calls per month from your child's principal.  We will also continue to provide updates through our weekly email newsletter and on our district and school websites.

Have a great school year!

CTE Students place in National SkillsUSA Competitions

Several students in our Career Technical Education (CTE) programs across the county qualified in state competitions to compete nationally in the National SkillsUSA Competition.

Sullivan Central student Robin Fox placed 9th in the National Construction Renovation competition.

Competing from the Sullivan South Cosmetology department at the 2012 National SkillsUSA conference was Pamela Roberts and Brandi Ward. These students competed in the Occupational Health and Safety contest which consists of conducting a variety of safety based projects and compiling the information into a scrapbook. These students placed 5th in the nation in this contest area which is sponsored by OSHA and other safety based industry experts.

Students from the Sullivan East High School's Criminal Justice program have recently returned from the National Skills USA competition. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel.

SkillsUSA is a national, nonprofit organization servingteachers, high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).

The crime scene investigation (CSI) team members were Kristen Cross, Katie Smith and Madison Cross. Earlier this year, this three person CSI team from Sullivan East won the regional contest held at Northeast State Community College. In April, they competed in the state SkillsUSA contest in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The team advanced from the state contest and represented the state of Tennessee at the National SkillsUSA competition in Kansas City, Missouri. There were nearly 6,000 contestants competing in over 90 categories from all over the United States.  The contestants are scored on crime scene processing, evidence collection, written exam, uniform clothing and resume process. The Sullivan East team scored 6th overall in the nation.
