Recognition of School Nutrition Leadership Academy
 Elizabeth Burk and Nikki Olden, food service employees at North High/Middle School,recently graduated from the Tennessee School Nutrition Association Leadership Academy. The Academy was instituted to provide a strong leadership base for the future of School Nutrition. Participants attend three intense sessions of leadership training that includes such topics as Agenda and Program Planning, Time Management, Parliamentary Procedure, Issue Development and Management and Facilitation Skills. The graduation ceremony was held on June 11, 2012 in Chattanooga. Sullivan East CSI Team Places 6th in National SkillsUSA Competition Students from Sullivan East High School's Criminal Justice program was recognized for their recent accomplishments at the National Skills USA competition. Skills USA is apartnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. The crime scene investigation (CSI) team members were Kristen Cross, Katie Smith, and Madison Cross. Earlier this year, this three person CSI team from East won the regional contest held at Northeast State Community College. in April, they competed in the state SkillsUSA contest in Chattanooga, TN. The team advanced from the state contest and represented the state TN at the National SkillsUSA competition in Kasas City, MO. There were nearly 6,000 contestants competing in over 90 categories from all over the United States. The contestants are scored on crime scene processing, evidence collection, written exam, uniform clothing and resume process. The Sullivan East team scored 6th overall in the nation. Innovation Academy Governing Board Mr. Bales was appointed as one of the Sullivan County school board representatives to the Innovation Academy Governing Board. Dan Wells serves as the other school board representative.  Recognition of Mr. Kiss and Mr. Smith Mr. Jim Kiss was presented with a plaque recognizing his 28 years serving on the Sullivan County School Board.
Mr. Ron Smith was also presented with a plaque recognizing his 8 years serving on the school board.
Facilities Update: - Innovation Academy opened successfully today for the first day of school. Teachers and students were excited and learning in their newly renovated facility.
- Ketron Elementary school construction progress is on schedule. Administrators will be moving into the building on Tuesday and Faculty will be moving into the building on Wednesday. The building is ready for students to attend for their first day of school Monday, August 13.
- Sullivan North Middle School renovations are progressing as scheduled. Teachers will occupy their rooms on Wednesday to prepare for students to arrive on Monday.
- The new fire alarm system for Sullivan North Middle and Sullivan North High school has been installed and is being tested.
- New rooftop HVAC units at the Sullivan North facility are being factory commissioned today. This is part of the Energy Systems Group (ESG) project.
- Central Heights Elementary classroom window AC units have been replaced with BARD HVAC units. These have been installed and are operational. HVAC rooftop units for the school have arrived and will be arrived soon. This is part of the ESG project.
- Sullivan South High school HVAC rooftop units are expected to arrive soon. This is part of the ESG project.
- Sullivan East High school's new school bus road has been completed. This new road allows for the separation of bus loading/unloading and student parking and carpool area.
- A new kitchen air conditioning unit is being installed at Sullivan East High school and will be operational for the opening of school on Monday.
- Weaver Elementary's boiler, the last remaining coal-fired boiler in the county, will be replaced with a propane-fired steam boiler that is currently on order. This is part of the ESG project.
- As part of the 2012-2013 general purpose renovation fund, Mary Hughes will receive the Valley Pike boiler to replace one existing out-of-service boiler. Purchasing will be bidding this project soon.
- Central High School's parking lot has been paved and striped. The parking spaces for vehicles have been widened. This $0.5 million project was funded by general purpose renovation funds. The paving was completed by the Sullivan County Highway Department.
- Four classrooms have been renovated at Rock Springs Elementary. Miller Perry Elementary, Indian Springs Elementary, and Bluff City Elementary to accomodate STEM Instructional programs.
- Rock Springs Elementary's cooling tower has been replaced using general purpose renovation funds.
- New tile is being laid in eight classrooms at Bluff City Elementary.

- Architectural Design Award - TSBA - This award is granted annually by the TSBA. The board approved for Ketron Elementary School to be submitted for consideration for this award.
- The scholarship fund from the William D. Neil estate has provided $148, 498.79 for Sullivan County schools to be used specifically for Sullivan North High students' college assistance.
