Reconsideration/Clarification of Rezoning Ketron Students to Central Heights:

The Board approved Dr. Yennie's recommendation to defer the decision regarding rezoning some Ketron students to Central Heights for another year.  At that time the board will evaluate the situation.  Mr. Kiss expressed his concern regarding moving students across zone lines; however, the board did not eliminate that as a possibility in the future.  Mrs. Combs recommended a board policy on the timeframe of community notification regarding rezoning.   

2012-2013 Proposed Budget:

The Board approved the proposed budget that will now go before the budget committee this evening.  It includes the following highlights:

• The current budget is at $89 million and requires the use of $2.3 million of fund balance, leaving approximately $0.5 million of available fund balance. This is down from an original budget of $91 million.    

• Board members were provided with student enrollment numbers and number of teachers for each school in the system.  These numbers will be continually tracked.  We have gone from 870 teachers in last year's budget to 818 teachers for the upcoming school year.  Teachers and essential personnel are being placed where they are needed.  Student enrollment has decreased even over the last couple of months and adjustments will continually be made as enrollment data is available.    

• Revenue items show an increase of $1.5 million, reflecting the expected property tax increase as indicated by the County Commission.    

• The budget increases reflect the 2.5% salary increase for professional and support personnel; software infrastructure improvements;  accounting software; instructional supplies, and the PowerSchool student management system, which will provide parents with continually updated grade and attendance information.   

The fourth lottery drawing to fill released slots at Innovation Academy was held this evening following the school board meeting.  Students will be notified by email this evening if their number was drawn.  The deadline to confirm registration is 7/20/12 at noon. The following numbers were drawn:
