School Board Meeting Update 6-28-12
Director of Schools' Report:
Budget Update:
- At the last meeting the of the county commission, they voted to propose a tax increase at the next meeting, which is scheduled for the third Monday of July.
- Dr. Yennie would like to encourage everyone to continue to provide support for County Commissioners as they work to fund Education
Construction Update:
- Ketron Renovation is on schedule. Furniture has been relocated into 22 rooms and continues. Paving will begin in the front of the school next week. Ceiling tile installation will begin soon.
- North Middle Schoool renovation is underway and on schedule. The new middle school office complex is framed and drywall will begin next week.
- North fire alarm system is underway and will be ready for the opening school.
- Bluff City Elementary Pre-K playground work will begin next week.
- Sullivan East High School HVAC Unit will be operational by the start of school.
- Miller Perry hallway epoxy finish will be complete.
- Central High School rear parking lot paving is complete and the front parking lot paving will be completed in July.
- Sullivan East High School bus access road to the rear of the building is complete.
- Sullivan North High School girls' fieldhouse will be bid in July.
- Dumpster concrete pads were installed at ten schools during June to prevent roadway damage.
- Innovation Academy building is being emptied so that renovations may begin.
- ESG (Energy Systems Group) Projects:
- Central Heights bard unit installations are almost complete in one wing and will begin in the other wing soon.
- North rooftop units have been replaced. Connections are currently being completed.
- South rooftop units are on order.
- Weaver boiler replacement is in design stages.

- Policy 5/201 Separation Practices for non-Tenured Teachers - Review
- Teacher Tenure
The board voted to extend tenure to Mr. Davis in Sullivan County School system.
- Resolution for iPad Lease Agreement for Ketron Elementary
This will provide the initial 400 iPads for Ketron Elementary School students in grades 3-5. For grades K-2, students will use existing iPads and iPad carts from Cedar Grove, Kingsley, and Brookside.
The following items were considered at today's Board Meeting:
- Rezoning from Weaver to Emmett - motion failed
Third Drawing for Innovation Academy
The third lottery drawing to fill released slots at Innovation Academy was held this evening during a brief meeting of the governing board following the school board meeting. Students will be notified by email this evening if their number was drawn. The deadline to confirm registration is 7/6/12 at noon. The following numbers were drawn:
