Cliff Hawkins Recognized for Academic and Athletic Excellence

 

School board vice-chairman Betty Combs recognized Cliff Hawkins, a recent graduate of Sullivan East High School, for academic and athletic excellence.  Cliff graduated with a 4.0 grade point average this May.  In addition to his academic success, Cliff set many school track records as well as winning local and state track competitions.  Cliff was coached this year by Julia Rafalowski, Tony Varvoutis, and Anthony Todt.  His achievements include: Dan Crowe Most Outstanding Jumper, Three Rivers Conference MVP Sprinter, Associated Press Most Outstanding Boy (Spring Track), Back-to-Back Sectional Decathlon Champion, Three sectional wins (long jump, 110, and 300), 7th place in state long jump, 6th place in state triple jump, 5th place in state 110 hurdles, 3rd place in state 300 hurdles.  Cliff is also the current state champion for the A-AA Decathlon. 

 

CTE Students Recognized 

Bo Shadden, Career and Technical Education Coordinator, recognized several CTE students and their teachers.  The following students were recognized for winning 1st place at state competition:  Kacey Tunnell, cosmetology; Heather Maddox, cosmetology; B.J. Small, costruction chapter display; Brandon Martin, construction chapter display; and Ashley Havya, construction chapter display.  Autumn McCannn was also recognized for being named the Culinary East TN Vice President.  Overall Sullivan County has fourteen national competitors representing all four high schools.  Other first place state winners include Dylan Barton, Miranda Heck, Megan Schwartz, Sarah Buckles, Pamela Roberts, and Hannah Wise.

Innovation Academy Governing Board Update 6-5-12
 
The governing board of Innovation Academy met today to finalize lottery procedures.  The lottery to select students for Innovation Academy will be held tomorrow, June 6, at 5:00 p.m. at the Eastman Employee Center auditorium.  Lottery numbers will be randomly selected in real time and those numbers will be recorded as they are announced.  Students who are selected during the lottery will receive an email informing them of their placement.   The email will contain a pdf and link to an acceptance form.  Students must accept their placement prior to the deadline in order to retain it.  Students who are not accepted will receive an email notifying them that their number was not selected.  Selected lottery numbers will be posted on the Innovation Academy website.
