Ketron Intermediate: Matchbox Car Math

Seventh graders in Julie Rogers and Katie Widener's math classes at Ketron Intermediate completed scale-size drawings of matchbox cars that are displayed throughout the school.   Students began by measuring specified parts of a matchbox car.   Then, using the scale factor of 1/64, students found the actual dimensions, and measured them out on large paper that was donated by Domtar.

RSES Math Blast

Rock Springs Elementary hosted a  math blast this year that focused on major skills essential to the 4th and 5th grade curriculums, including fractions and decimals, algebra, and geometry.  The students participated in scavenger hunts, relay races, and teamwork all involving math application. Some examples are: The Amazing Race, our Spring Into Math with a Blast hallway, and using food to analyze area, perimeter, and the number of faces, edges, and vertices.  Every student displayed great gains when comparing pre- and post-assessment data.
