National Night Out

On Tuesday, August 5, Vallejo will participate in  National Night Out in an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

Vallejo Police Department personnel will also participate and get involved, which helps to send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back.

Currently, the following neighborhoods have registered with the Vallejo Police Department's Community Services Section.  View the map here. You can also visit Nextdoor to see who in your neighborhood is planning to participate.

Smart & Final Building Upgrades

Smart & Final has almost completed the transformation of their former building into a new warehouse with additional space.

The warehouse grocery store, similar to a Costco or Sam's Club, is a place where restaurant chefs, culinary professionals and other businesses and organizations shop for restaurant-quality products at low warehouse prices. With no membership required, households have shopped with Smart & Final to get the same great deals and products for event planning or just to stock up the pantry.

The store not only remodeled the inside of their current location, but expanded into the vacant lot next door, extending their warehouse. The total cost of renovations is valued at $1.4 million.  Smart & Final is located at 3901 Sonoma Boulevard.

BayAlerts from SF Bay Ferry

The San Francisco Bay Ferry has created a new way for riders to receive important, timely and customized ferry service information.

BayAlerts will send regular updates about upcoming schedule or service changes, events and promotions, or alerts regarding service delays or cancellations. Riders can sign up for email updates, a text to a mobile phone, a voice message to your landline or mobile phone or on a TTY/TDD device.

The BayAlerts rider notification system allows the rider to choose the kinds of notifications they want, the routes they are interested in, and where/how they want their notifications delivered. Alert service is also available in Spanish and Chinese.

Those who are already receiving email or phone message alerts will need a new subscription to BayAlerts to continue receiving ferry service messages. For additional information, or to subscribe to BayAlerts, click here.

Vallejo Waterfront Weekend Sponsorship

Last month, Mayor Osby Davis and the Vallejo City Council agreed to reinstate Vallejo Waterfront Weekend, coming to Vallejo in October.

The first Vallejo Waterfront Weekend was developed in 2004 as a collaboration of events and organizations in Vallejo and the surrounding area.

After 10 years, numerous organizations are reestablishing this event to once again to bring the community together.

Vallejo Waterfront Weekend celebrates the uniting of unique talents and diversities in the community while providing a one-stop shop for regional sponsorship.

The Bay Terrace Theater (Mira Theatre Guild) has been designated as this year's main beneficiary, though the event will provide an opportunity for other nonprofits to raise money for their organizations as well.

By maximizing resources and reducing expenses to create one major event, Vallejo is creating an organizational structure that small stand-alone nonprofits can thrive under for many years to come.

Taking place over two days during the first weekend in October, the event will feature music, food, entertainment and activities for the entire family, potentially drawing thousands of individuals from Vallejo, Solano County and the entire Bay Area.

The festival will unite the Downtown Arts and Entertainment District and the Waterfront communities, and will also help celebrate the historic significance of the Mare Island Naval Shipyard.

This event will require the support of local and regional sponsors, companies, vendors and hundreds of volunteers.
