WELCOME BACK TO A FUTURE OF LEARNING

Welcome back, Twin Peaks families and students! It hardly seems possible that we have moved into August, a month filled with the excitement of learning here at Twin Peaks. The Class of 2026 is just starting kindergarten and the Class of 2014 will be finishing their high school education under the same roof this next school year. So, if you are feeling a little older after that last sentence about our kindergarten students, know that you are not alone. A K-12 school brings many opportunities for growth and memories of learning and advancement for Twin Peaks Charter Academy. Curriculum initiatives for K-12 in math and writing, multiple advanced placement classes for our high school students, MS and HS athletics, new chemistry, biology, and physics labs, PTO activities, and parent involvement for new and existing parents, plus the foundations of starting a Twin Peaks High School Booster Club are some of activities taking place throughout our school.

Also, in June, the Board of Directors appointed Mrs. Danielle Feeney as the K-5 Principal for TPCA. I am both excited and supportive of this opportunity for change in leadership, title, and responsibilities for Mrs. Feeney and for our K-5 parents, students, and staff. Mrs. Feeney, like all of our staff, has worked tirelessly, in supporting the entire organization and will now spend the majority of her time focusing on the K-5 elements, while continuing to support the entire K-12 system in her assigned duties and responsibilities. Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Feeney when the opportunity arises.

As for me, please know that the BOD has provided direction aimed at the future of TPCA in making changes supportive of future leadership. A change in my title and responsibilities will help provide focus as the 6-12 Principal/Director. This change will guide and support TPCA, across the school, while preparing Twin Peaks Charter Academy for internal staffing and leadership opportunities for current and future staff members at Twin Peaks.

I look forward to the school year. We want to continue to engage each of you, as parents, in a manner that will help your child grow in learning and confidence combined with humility and a sense of belonging at Twin Peaks Charter Academy. Again, we are looking forward to the days, months, and year to come.

ATTENTION:
NEW SECURITY MEASURES AT TPCA

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We would like to introduce you to a new system our school has acquired to further help protect your children. It's called V-soft. V-soft helps track visitors, students, faculty, contractors, and volunteers at our school, thus providing a safer, more monitored environment for the students.

When visitors, volunteers, or contractors check in, or when parents come to pick up students, they will be asked to present a valid state-issued ID for entering into the system. The system has the ability to provide alerts on people who may jeopardize the safety of the campus. We feel certain this will help us keep our campus a little safer and ask for your cooperation in presenting your valid state-issued ID when checking in at the school. Thank you, in advance, for your help in this matter.

Queridos Padres:

 STUDENT PORTAL PASSWORDS ARE CHANGING

REMINDER: Effective June 5, 2013, student passwords were changed, and this change affected all student computer logins, Infinite Campus Portals, and Google Mail/Google Apps.  The change was necessary to conform to varying software requirements.

The change increased the length of a student password from six characters to eight characters by adding "sv" to the beginning of the student password. Students who had changed their passwords have had those passwords reset.

There is a district notice posted on the IC Campus Portal to notify parents and remind students of this change.  Communication will be sent again at the start of the '13-'14 school year as a reminder.

ATTENTION PARENTS:  ONLINE PAYMENT CHANGES

Changes to Twin Peaks Charter's online payment system were completed on July 8, 2013.  RevTrak has been integrated with Infinite Campus, and you will now use your Parent Portal user ID to make online payments.  This integration enables automatic credits to student fee balances in Infinite Campus when payments are made online which will now provide you with immediate fee balance updates.

All Student Fee payments will now be made through the "Student Fees" button on the WebStore home page where you will then be prompted for your Parent Portal User ID and child's birthdate to continue.  RevTrak will then display any/all student fee balances that have been assigned at that time in Infinite Campus as well as any optional fees if applicable.

Separate payment "buttons" for Elementary, MS, and HS are available to make payments for any athletic fees, parking fees, library fees, damaged or lost textbook fees, or returned check fees that may not have been assigned in Infinite Campus.  As always, we can still take payments for you at both the West and East campus offices or over the phone.

If you do not have a Parent Portal account, please sign up at Back-To-School registration days August 8 or 9.

Thank you for your patience as we refine our online payment process.

"PLUGGED IN WITH PTO"

Dear TPCA Families and Staff:

I hope that you had a wonderful summer! I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share with you the Parent-Teacher Organization's ("PTO") goals for the upcoming school year.

My name is Katie Gaddis, and I will be serving as the PTO President this year. I am a Longmont native and love this town so much that the furthest I was ever willing to move away was to Boulder while I attended CU. My husband, Chris, and I have four boys, and they certainly keep us busy.  Our two oldest sons, Aiden and Cole, will be in fifth and second grades respectively, and they have really enjoyed growing up as Timberwolves.

So, in light of the madness that is my life, why did I join PTO?  Simple.  I have a passion for my kids, our school, and our community, and I was desperate to play a part, however small, in positively impacting all three!  Now that I am a few years deep in PTO, I am proud to say that my commitment to PTO has been far more rewarding than I ever expected.

To that end, I would like to share with you a couple of upcoming opportunities where you can join with PTO to make a similar impact:

We have our K-5 Pool Party on Friday, August 16 from 7-10 p.m. at Sunset Pool and our Middle School Pool Party on Saturday, August 17 from 7-10 p.m. at Sunset Pool. It is free to attend and sure to be a fun time. There will be pizza there to purchase and a sweet treat provided by PTO.

On Friday, September 13, we have our 2nd Annual Timberwolf Trot. This event was a wild success in 2012, and we will run it very similarly to last year. The pledge envelopes and flyers will be coming home very shortly after the start of school, so make sure to check Thursday folders!

We would love for you to join in and help plan these events and future events for this year. If you have any interest or questions, please do not hesitate to email me at ckagaddis@msn.com.  I would love to get you PLUGGED IN to PTO and even more PLUGGED IN to our school.  It is a goal of our PTO Board this year to get every family and staff member involved in the school.  Our students will thrive and grow from our efforts.  Thank you for your time, and I look forward to serving our school alongside you.

Hope to see you at Registration next week!

Katie Gaddis, PTO President

Booster Club
NEW!  HIGH SCHOOL BOOSTER CLUB!

Twin Peaks High School Parents:

When the next school year starts, Twin Peaks High School will be starting its third year and working toward graduating our first Senior Class!  Wow, it seems like only yesterday that we were still in the building on Main St., and the thought of a high school at T.P.C.A was just an ambitious idea.  As parents, we all know how fast time goes by.  One minute, our kids are starting kindergarten as we stand teary-eyed in the car-pool lane watching them march off to school.  The next minute, they graduate high school and leave home for college.  It's so important that we take every opportunity we can to be involved in our kids' high school experience. It goes by quickly, and it only happens once.  That's why my wife, Kristin, and I decided, at the end of last year, to start the Twin Peaks High School Booster Club. It gives us all a way to be involved with our teenagers' high school experiences.  We will be organizing events to boost school spirit and unity, as well as fundraisers to provide much-needed resources in the appropriate places.  We are looking for new Booster Club members, and that's where you can start.  For more information, please contact Kristin Ellis or Tim Ellis via email: ktlskt@yahoo.com or tim@frenchquarterphotography.com.  We look forward to hearing from you.  Enjoy the rest of your summer.
