Playground Evacuation Drills
K-5 playground evacuation drills

After the events in Connecticut this past December, members of our school community have met to discuss safety procedures and the security of our school's facilities  One recommendation that came out of this committee was to implement a procedure for getting students quickly and safely into the building should there be an outside threat when students are at recess. Administration met with instructional aides to develop such a plan. This week and next week, students and staff will be practicing the playground evacuation drill during their second recesses, weather permitting. The evacuation plan is as follows:

When students hear the air horn

  1. They will go quickly, safely, and silently to the nearest playground door for 2nd-5th grades and to the southwest playground door for K-1st grades.
  2. After entering the building, students will go quickly, safely, and silently to the Commons.
  3. Finally, students will line up with their classes in the Commons and wait for teacher directions.

Should you have questions or further suggestions, please contact Danielle Feeney at feeney_danielle@svvsd.org

Odyssey of the Mind
CONGRATULATIONS!

Both 5th grade and Middle School OM teams did a wonderful job and worked hard at the State Tournament last Saturday.  The 5th grade team became State Champions and will move onto the World Tournament in May in MI.  Let's show our support and  encouragement for them as they prepare for this great opportunity.  We are very proud of them.

Alex Jimenez and Claudia Quiroz!

They have been accepted into the Summer Latino Leadership Summit at Adams State University and will receive college credit.

7th grade Debate Team members who were invited to speak at the charter school rally at the Capitol. They were one of four teams invited to participate out of 32 teams in the debate league. Way to go!

Symphonic Band for earning Superior ratings at the Northern Region Band Festival last week in Loveland! They put in a lot of hard work in preparation, and it showed in their performance. Outstanding effort, 8th graders and HS students!

Needed: Empty Clean Pizza Boxes
Rather than throw away or recycle your pizza boxes, why not bring them in to Ms. Beyer's 4th grade class?  She wants to re-use the containers as desk dividers for her classroom.  She also needs someone to decorate them (hint - great home volunteer project)  If you can help out, please contact Ms. Beyer at beyer_gina@svvsd.org.

CHARGES ON STUDENT LUNCH ACCOUNTS

All charges on student lunch accounts must be paid before May 15.

Students will not be able to charge a lunch after April 26, 2013.  If there is a balance owed on the student's account, you will need to provide a lunch from home. If you have any questions, please contact Ana Cramer at 720-494-3605.
