Twin Peaks Charter Academy Newsletter
Message from Mr. Buchmann

Dear Parents,

At this time, I want to welcome each family back to Twin Peaks from the holiday break of what I hope was a restful and thankful time with family and friends.  As we start this New Year, I would like to briefly address the devastating news that struck so many of our hearts, prior to the holiday break.

Many of us have spent the last couple of weeks sorting out the madness and reviewing the unimaginable events that took place in Newtown, CT.  While the details of this willful act are still being released from personal witnesses, local officials and the media, the senseless shattering of so many lives can be overwhelming for many of us parents. Make no mistake, the depth of the evil that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary remains, unconscionable.

I'd like to reassure you that at TPCA, student safety is always our greatest priority.  We schedule adult supervision and practice drills regularly and prepare for many different situations.  These emergency procedures;   lock-out, lock-down or evacuation are part of the SVVSD Crisis & Emergency training that we as an organization participate in and practice.

Some of our security measures include:

- District wide compatible radio's.

-Email, phone call and emergency communication protocol.

-Interior and Exterior security cameras.

-Secured Exterior doors

Could we do more to strengthen our security? Yes, and this will be reviewed and improved as we review emergency situations in light of the current events. TPCA wants to provide the safest school possible, both physically and culturally.

We are thankful for the strong partnerships with the Longmont Police Department, SVVSD Board of Education.  We value the dedication and commitment of our staff and will continue to refine our procedures for maximum safety of our school.

Engaged and aware parents and community members who are vigilant and dedicated to Twin Peaks are a major asset, do not minimize your contribution to your students safety.  Follow the procedures we have in place for visiting our school and question those who do not.

Administrators will be participating in a district wide school safety program on January 7th.  Your Board of Directors and Administration will host a public meeting shortly afterward.

On behalf of the Board, our Staff and Administration, we thank you for your kind comments, words of encouragement and support for our teachers and students. We look forward to your participation as we refine and improve school safety for your students.

Warmly,

BJ Buchmann

Twin Peaks Board of Directors Annual Election Nominations are Now Open

Do you have a love for education and a desire to make Twin Peaks the best that it can be? The Twin Peaks Board of Directors self-nomination period is now open.  Parents and community members are encouraged to apply by requesting and submitting a brief questionnaire.  Nomination packets are due back by Tuesday, January 22.  The election will be held during Parent Teacher conferences February 7 and 8.  Newly elected members can begin meeting attendance immediately and begin service at the last meeting in June.  Three board positions are up for election, and the term of service is 2 years.  Regular meetings are held the first and third Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.
Ideal candidates will bring energy and enthusiasm for making TPCA the best school possible.  Past boards have benefited from the contributions of many different professions like legal, finance, accounting, education, management, etc.  A board comprised of members with variety of backgrounds and skillsets is ideal. Board packets can be picked up at the front office or electronically from Ginger Cauley or Pete Wanninger.
If you have any questions, please contact Ginger or Pete.
