Sunny Isles

Spring is underway, so they say, at least since I'm still in Florida. The last show I will be doing here until next year, this weekend on Key Biscayne, just south of Miami via the Rickenbacker Causeway. Having had much success this winter at the Coconut Grove and Beax Arts at the Univ of Miami, I hope to see some followers of my work at the show.

I will travel back to New York next week to get ready for the trip down to Texas, and switch hats - going to Dallas for the ever eclectic 3 day and night party that rocks this warehouse bar scene on the streets of Deep Ellum, in the downtown area. With the NCAA final four in town that week, it's sure to be even busier than last year. It will be quite different from the Miami vibe, as I move on and bring some new work with me. After Dallas, I head to the hill country for a few days, my favorite part of Texas, and look forward to the show in vibrant downtown Austin. Good art, music, and a fun time, I love this whole part of the art show tour.

Gruene
Grune Hall © Mark MacKinnon 2014

Gruene Hall, built in 1878, is Texas' oldest continually operating and most famous dance hall.

The owner's focus on booking singer-songwriters and artists who play original material has provided a fertile proving ground for many former "new talents" such as George Strait, Hal Ketchum, and Lyle Lovett.

Gruene Hall has also become a place where working songwriters, such as John Hiatt or Rodney Crowell, Kevin Welch or Jim Lauderdale, can try out new material or just take a breather between tour dates; where music icons such as Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddly, Merle Haggard or Kris Kristofferson can play in a more intimate venue; where former "up and comers" such as Garth Brooks, Chris Isaak or the Dixie Chicks can extend their tour; and where big names such as Willie Nelson and Aaron Neville have chosen to perform.
