MALDEN CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
BLUE & GOLD BULLETIN   -   NOVEMBER 25, 2015

  From the Headmaster

Headmaster Doherty
On behalf of the entire Malden Catholic community, I wish you a happy and blessed Thanksgiving. It has been a difficult school year so far having lost senior Alex Vitale. It is easy in the face of tragedy to lose that sense of thankfulness, but as we as a community mourned together I felt tremendously grateful. I was grateful for the young men who responded in faith and love to the loss of their brother Alex. I was grateful for the faculty and staff who consoled the boys and one another. I was grateful for a community who shared their prayers with us during a tragic time.

Alex was a gift to us. Like all gifts from God we must choose to accept them. As I spoke to the senior class last week I encouraged them to allow Alex to continue to be a gift to us, to let his life change ours. I encouraged them to be thankful for what they have. To remember the precious gift of life God has given each one of us. We cannot let Alex's passing be a loss; we must choose to let his life be a gift.

There is so much to be thankful for at Malden Catholic. We are a school like no other. When the New England Association of Schools and Colleges spent four days with us last month, the chairman of the visiting committee shared with me the following thought. He said, "Lots of schools claim to be a family, but from the minute we arrived at Malden Catholic it was clear that you were. For Malden Catholic those are not just words. That's how you live here." What more could we ask for.

Happy Thanksgiving

Thomas J. Doherty III
