God's Word makes Life Work
"Your word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures. Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you. " Psalm 119: 89-91
What makes life work is what we have the opportunity to determine what are the best instructions from a variety of sources. If you were to really seek from where does most of the information we receive on a regular basis come, we may find that it comes from a variety of media sources. What we must understand is what we hear, see, and read in the media comes from a belief system that is based on the world system and not a Biblical system. (1 John 4:4-6)
The world system tells us that truth is in the eye of the beholder, there is no Creator, absolute moral truth does not exist, and the highest achievement in our life is self satisfaction. Again, scripture says, "The wisdom of this world is but foolishness in God's sight." 1 Corinthians 3: 19
In accepting God's word, we must also recognize the tendency to pick and choose those things to guide our life that we believe will suit us the best and give us what we want out of life. Those things that do not seem rational to us, or, to the standards we are being bombarded with in out culture, we want to dismiss. We need to be careful in not placing our wisdom above the wisdom of God. It boils down to do we use the Bible in it's entirety as our instruction manual, or, do we use the way of the world. We cannot pick some of one and some of the other. Although, that is the most common approach.
The Bible is a book of history, prophecy, and instruction, all of which has been inspired by God for "teaching, rebuking, and correction." Just remember this, if the Bible is intended to be a gift of instruction from God to mankind, then would it not make sense that He would give us a corrected or updated version if it was actually in error and not relevant for us today. Is the Bible the inspired, authentic word of God? If it is not, then it simply becomes another self help book that we can pick up off the shelf when needed. If it is the absolute word of God, then we need to honor it in it's entirety. We may not understand all of it, but it is the WORD OF GOD. We need to stand in awe of it and hold it in reverence, because it is God breathed and inspired by God himself.
Just as a builder reads his blueprints and makes sure his foundation is solid before building a house, so does the Godly man depend on the Bible as his blueprint for a life with Christ. It is to concentrate on seeking God, submitting all we are to Him, standing with the Holy, Sovereign, True God of the universe, and relying on His word as our guide, our strength, and our shield.
"Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his word, or He will rebuke you and prove you a liar."
Proverbs 30: 5,6
