APCD Grant Funding Available
Several opportunities are now available for grant funding through the Air District! The APCD offers numerous incentive programs to help you replace old, polluting engines, equipment and wood burning devices to improve SLO County's air quality. In 2015 alone, $1.8 million was spent in grant funding, reducing 54 tons of pollutants in SLO County.

On-Road, Off-Road & Agricultural Projects: Replace your old, dirty agricultural tractor, construction equipment, on-road trucks or agricultural engines and you could get funding for up to 65% of the project cost. Learn more here.

Wood Burning Device Change-out: Get $1,000 to replace a wood or pellet burning stove or fireplace insert, or $2,000 to replace a conventional masonry, prefab, or zero-clearance open hearth fireplace! Funding is currently available for residents in Los Osos, Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo and Nipomo. Learn more here.

Voluntary Accelerated Vehicle Retirement: Scrap out your old 1993 or older, light-duty car or pickup and get $1,000! There are also expanded funding opportunities for residents in Los Osos. Learn more here.
A Picnic in SLO County
The food products you consume on a daily basis have a big impact on our environment and the quality of our air. Did you know that on average, most food in the U.S. travels 1,500 miles before reaching your plate, and emissions from food miles are among the fastest growing sources of greenhouse gases worldwide? In SLO County, we are fortunate to have several great Farmers' Markets to choose from year-round. Help preserve local farmland, keep money in our local economy and reduce air pollution by shopping local when possible!

Best Workplaces for Commuters Announced

During 2015, SLO Regional Rideshare
challenged employers across SLO County to compete for the "Best Workplaces for Commuters" title. Winners for this nationwide title were chosen based on the number of employees in each organization and the number of smart commute trips logged.

SLO County APCD, with a staff of only 24, was the winner in the Under 150 Employees category by logging 3,456 smart commute trips!

The challenge continues for 2016! Get your workplace involved and encourage employees to develop smart commute habits; not only will you help keep our skies blue, but you will keep some green in your wallet!

Congratulations Paul for over 23 Years of Dedicated Service!
Paul Reitz, senior engineer for the Engineering Division, formally retired as an employee of the APCD on December 26, 2015. Paul handled a very diverse mix of Engineering Division functions throughout his more than 23 year long career with the APCD, including acting as our lead staff for the Air Toxics Program, Gasoline Station Permitting, Emissions Testing and Agricultural Engine Registration Program. Paul was also the primary author of many of our existing regulations adopted through implementation of our Clean Air Plan, and was our local expert on clean burning fireplace and wood stove technologies. His depth of knowledge on a wide variety of air quality issues is already missed.

Paul looks forward to spending quality time with his family and playing music on his extensive collection of guitars and amplifiers whenever and wherever he can! We all wish him an enjoyable and fulfilling retirement.
APCD Division Manager Appointed as Santa Barbara APCD Executive Director
Aeron Arlin Genet, Planning, Monitoring & Outreach Division Manager for SLO County APCD, has headed south to Santa Barbara to take on her new role as Air Pollution Control Officer for the Santa Barbara County APCD. Aeron began her career here in 2000 and was quickly promoted to Manager of the Planning and Outreach Division in 2002. In that role, Aeron managed and oversaw all aspects of air quality planning, new development and project review, incentive and clean fuels programs, and public outreach; in the past year, she also took on oversight of our air quality monitoring programs. Aeron was also a critical leader in efforts by SLO County and local cities to prepare and implement climate action plans.

Over the past 16 years, Aeron has provided outstanding service to our agency and the public we serve. We will greatly miss her and wish her the best of luck on her new adventure.  Aeron's extensive knowledge, expertise, professionalism and enthusiasm will be a tremendous asset to the Santa Barbara APCD, and we look forward to opportunities to continue working with her in that new capacity!

APCD Welcomes New Chair & Vice Chair and Recognizes Outgoing Board Chair
At the January 27th APCD Board Meeting, the APCD recognized Adam Hill, Supervisor of District 3, with a plaque of appreciation for his service as Chair of the Air Pollution Control District Board of Directors during the 2015 calendar year. The Chair of the APCD Board of Directors must undertake responsibilities beyond those of other Directors on the Board, including serving as the Chair of the Executive Committee, which meets separately. Mr Hill ensured meetings ran smoothly and saw that Board business throughout the year was accomplished efficiently and effectively.

APCD would now like to welcome our new Chair of the APCD Board of Directors for the 2016 calendar year, Noah Smukler, City of Morro Bay Council Member! Debbie Arnold, Supervisor of District 5, was elected as Vice-Chair for the 2016 year.

With solidification of the new Board positions, membership on the APCD Executive Committee was established, which consists of the Chair, Vice Chair and Immediate Past Chair of the Board.
