 2013 Pollution Prevention Business Challenge

APCD wants to acknowledge the efforts of our local partners in the community by recognizing businesses that work hard to reduce air pollution and help keep our communities healthy. The 2013 Pollution Prevention Business Challenge awards will provide businesses the opportunity to highlight aspects of their business that go above and beyond what is required by state, federal, or local laws to reduce pollution.

To participate in the 2013 Pollution Prevention Business Challenge, the business must be located within San Luis Obispo County and hold an APCD stationary or portable source permit.

Applications are now available on our website or by phone at 805-781-5912 until August 5, 2013. Winners will be announced in September and they will receive media recognition, APCD Board recognition and an award to proudly display at their place of business or office!

For more information on the business challenge, important dates, or to sign up, please visit our website at SLOCleanAir.org/community/2013p2

Out & About Promoting Air Quality!

The APCD's Clean Air Ambassador program builds on a partnership with Cal Poly students to provide environmental education to children in grades K through 6. The program provides science-based activities and lesson plans to elementary aged students and targets before and after-school programs. The Clean Air Ambassadors also attend and provide fun presentations to camps across the county (like the Girl Scout Camp at Rancho El Chorro Park in San Luis Obispo, pictured above).

The APCD will be booking presentations this summer for the next school year. Are you a teacher interested in getting a presentation in your classroom or a parent that would like to see us come to your child's class? Fill out our Presentation Request Form on our website, today!

Air Quality & Your Health Program

The APCD and SLO County Public Health continue to promote the educational program to heighten awareness of the relationship between air pollution and human health.

The public can now hear a Public Service Announcement (PSA) on several local radio stations that advertises the program and gives information on how everyone can make one small step to protect our local air quality.

For more information on the Air Quality and Your Health Campaign, get a copy of the brochure series, or listen to the PSA visit our website

A Program of the SLO County APCD

APCD Gets a Flagpole!
APCD was able to celebrate Independence Day with the completion of the installation of their new flagpole. The flagpole will fly the American Flag, California State Flag as well as the APCD's Air Quality Index (AQI) flag. The color-coded AQI forecast is a tool used nationwide to inform the public on air quality conditions and steps they can take to reduce their daily exposure to pollution. The AQI flag will bring increased awareness to the neighboring community and visitors to the office of the daily air quality in our area.
Remembering A Community Leader

San Luis Obispo County 4th District Supervisor, and APCD Board Chair, Paul Teixeira passed away on June 26. A long-time resident of Nipomo, Paul was an active member of several community organizations. Our deepest condolences go out to Paul's family, friends and the constituents of District 4. Thank you, Paul, for your leadership and dedication to our community.
