Encampment Ordinance Passes Unanimously!

Attendants at the Seattle City Council's March 30 meeting show support for an encampment ordinance. The council voted unanimously to authorize tent encampments on city-owned and private land, including an amendment to study residential zoning options.  Photo by Daniel Bassett, courtesy of Real Change.

Thank you to everyone for your advocacy efforts! The City Council passed the encampment ordinance unanimously.  They also passed Kshama Sawant's amendment that allows the City to study putting encampments in more diverse locations. See Real Change and Seattle Times articles for more info.

Asian American Homelessness

Please read this recent International Examiner article about this underdocumented Seattle homeless population.

LIHI executive director Sharon Lee (right) with Dorcia Duenas (second from right), her husband, and two daughters.  The family was homeless and lived at Nickelsville for many months. They stayed in a tent in the middle of winter and the children attended school. They have since moved into LIHI housing and are doing very well.

Upbeat on Jackson presents singer-songwriter Bet Williams and composer John Hodian's

Epiphany Project

Saturday, April 11th at 7:30pm

2010 S. Jackson Street

Free!

With influences ranging from Qawwali devotional songs to Appalachian Folk, acoustic blues and Tuvan throat singing, Bet Williams uses her voice in an endless number of ways. John Hodian's piano playing features hauntingly beautiful melodies, intricate rhythms and a soulful intensity that reflect his Armenian roots and his affinity for improvisation. John & Bet's young son Jack Hodian also performs as their percussionist. The Epiphany Project has been described as, "a unique hybrid of world music, art song, Americana and avant-garde folk; utterly uncategorizable but always transcendently beautiful." by the Washington Post.
