Some of you may be wondering about the staff changes here at LIHI. As many of you know, Ania Beszterda-Alyson left LIHI in June. Mercedes Elizalde was brought on that same month as a new Volunteer Programs Coordinator. Soon after, Melissa Tiberio was hired as a second Volunteer Programs Coordinator. Quotes from the graduation:

"You have to stay positive. It was hard and I was worried, but I stayed positive and Julie was there with me the whole time. Now I feel really good about my skills and I can't wait to learn more." -Resident

"I love doing this! Don't stop the program.  It's been a great benefit to all the students I've had! Some have gotten jobs, some have learned valuable skills, while others have reconnected with long lost loved ones thanks to this program!" -Volunteer

Happy 2015!

A brand new year and a brand new volunteer e-newsletter. We've been on hiatus for awhile, but we wanted to reach out to all of our terrific volunteers with some new updates.

Please take some time to read about our recent volunteer projects, upcoming volunteer projects and some information about the volunteer department.

We also want to highlight stories from our volunteers. We would love to hear about your experiences. If you have a story you would like to share in an upcoming edition, please email volunteer@lihi.org.

MLK Day at the Cate:

The children living in Greenwood's Cate Apartments learned all about Dr. Martin Luther King during a special arts and crafts day with volunteers from Phinney Estate Law and the United Way of King County. The children and volunteers drew from the legacy of Dr. King by creating peace and justice themed projects. Volunteers led the children through multiple craft stations all centered around Dr. King. A number of the items now hang in the community room at the Cate for all to enjoy and become inspired by.

THANK YOU!

Thank you to all of our many volunteers at LIHI properties and the Urban Rest Stop. We couldn't do this without you!
