URS Funding Threatened!

Now is the Time to Make Your Voice Heard!

The 2015 Mayor's proposed Budget funds the Urban Rest Stop at $200,000, a reduction of $198,285 or 33%.

The Urban Rest Stop is the only hygiene center within the Puget Sound area that has extended early, late and weekend service hours, and provides services to all homeless demographics: men, women, children, families, disabled, veteran's and seniors.

Our weekend and evening hours would be eliminated by the 2015 Mayor's Budget.

The loss of $198,285 from the URS budget, caused by the 2015 Mayor's Proposed Budget Reductions, would have these immediate service reduction impacts:

1. TOTAL SERVICE HOURS ELIMINATED - 36 HOURS WEEKLY

2. SERVICES NOT PROVIDED:

  • Laundry Loads - 7,312
  • Showers - 14,706
  • Restroom Uses - 28,251
  • Patrons not Served - 1,738

3. URS HYGIENE AND JANITORIAL SUPPLIES PURCHASES - The URS would no longer be able to afford to purchase and distribute personal hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, children's diapers/wipes, disposable razors, shaving cream, skin lotion, athlete's foot powder, deodorant, female sanitary supplies, nail clippers, and baking soda.

The URS would only be able to purchase janitorial cleaning supplies and provide patrons with laundry soap, liquid body soap/shampoo, clean towels, and washcloths.
