The Mary McBride's Home Tour featured performances by many LIHI residents. The tour brought musical entertainment and fun into the homes of LIHI and other low-income community residents during a series of three concerts this month at Bianca's Place, the Frye Apartments, and Ernestine Anderson Place.  Thanks to sponsors Vulcan Inc., Mary's Place, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Skanska, Guitar Center, Pemco, and Enterprise.

Cate Apartments in Lush Form

We should probably change the name to "The Cate Garden Apartments" now that Home Depot volunteers have removed the pampas grass from the entryway flowerbed, erected a privacy trellis with grapes and flowers, filled the rest of the space with veggie starts and furnished the yard with bistro seating. The garden thrives under the attentions of resident volunteers.  Located in the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle, the Cate Apartments feature 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments for low-income families and individuals, and homeless veterans.

Thank you to the Home Depot Foundation and volunteers from the Bitterlake, Aurora village, and Bellevue Home Depot stores.

Residents Celebrate National Night Out

The Fleetwood Apartments in Olympia features 43 apartments for formerly homeless veterans and singles.  Residents participated in National Night Out this year by hosting a BBQ for residents and representatives from the Olympia Police Department and Department of Corrections. It was a huge success! We plan to make this an annual event.

National Night Out started in 1984 and now involves over 37.8 million people and 16,124 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. It's a wonderful opportunity for communities nationwide to promote police-community partnerships, crime prevention, and neighborhood camaraderie. Nation Night Out represents the kind of spirit, energy and determination to help make neighborhoods a safer place year round.
