LIHI <3 our volunteers!

Happy National Volunteer Week!

National Volunteer Week is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging individuals to seek out impactful ways to engage in their communities, and demonstrating that by working together we can meet our challenges and accomplish our goals. LIHI volunteers work hard every day contributing their skills, expertise, and unique talents to help our organization achieve its mission of ending homelessness one person, one family, and one community at a time. Thank you for your commitment to making a difference with LIHI!

How can you contribute to ending homelessness by volunteering?

  • Support low income families and individuals in becoming more self-sufficient.
  • Help LIHI residents of all ages build new skills and achieve their goals.
  • Help ensure Urban Rest Stop patrons can meet their basic hygiene needs so they can find and keep jobs, access housing, stay healthy and clean.
  • Help keep housing affordable to low income residents by performing short term and one day maintenance projects at LIHI apartments.
  • Use your experience and knowledge to advocate for an end to homelessness!

Alternative Spring Break students in action!

Volunteer Shout Outs!

THANK YOU students of Utah State University, Willamette University, and Concordia University for spending your alternative spring break with LIHI! Rain or shine, you helped us to keep the Urban Rest Stop clean, to keep our community gardens free of weeds, and to keep our hallways more welcoming thanks to a fresh coat of paint!

Jazzwalk at Ernestine Anderson Place
Garfield High Jazz Band

Jackson Street celebrated its Jazz history last weekend! LIHI joined in the fun by opening up the community space at Ernestine Aderson Place for our neighbors to enjoy as part of the Jackson Street Jazz Walk. Several bands, including Guy Destin, Michael Dare, Jazz Underground, and the renowned Garfield High School Jazz Band, put it to great use - Ernestine Anderson style! Ms. Anderson was a Garfield graduate herself!

There will be more jazz coming to Ernestine Anderson Place starting in July. Thanks to a grant from the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, LIHI will be putting on a free monthly concert series featuring local jazz and R&B musicians. Stay tuned for details.
