Housing & Homelessness Advocacy Day 2014
...it All Starts At Home!

Join LIHI's 2014 Housing & Homelessness Advocacy Day delegation! LIHI volunteers, residents, staff, and board members will travel to Olympia on Tuesday January 28th to help ensure everyone in our state has the opportunity to live in a safe, healthy, affordable home. Volunteers are powerful advocates for ending homelessness. You add a unique and powerful perspective to conversations in Olympia. You are proof that the community cares very deeply about ending homelessness, and your elected officials need to hear from you! At the Housing and Homelessness Advocacy Day (HHAD), you will have the chance to speak with your legislators face-to-face to simply share with them why this cause is important to you, and why you choose to volunteer your time with LIHI and the Urban Rest Stop.

Here is what Urban Rest Stop Volunteer Michelle Dillon shared about her HHAD experience last year, and why she'd like YOU to join her on January 28!

The day includes:

  • Workshops on how to talk to your elected officials and be the most effective advocate possible.
  • Inside information and timely updates on affordable housing and homelessness legislation.
  • Meetings with your lawmakers for which you'll be provided with key messages, documents to leave with your legislators, and support to share your story.
  • An opportunity to build the power of a strong and growing movement for affordable housing and an end to homelessness.

Volunteer with the One Night Count!

The One Night Count is an annual, nationwide point-in-time count of homeless individuals.  In Seattle, we will be counting in the streets, on night owl buses, at sobering centers, shelters and tent cities. This year's count is taking place the night of Jan 23th into Jan 24th 2013 (Thursday night into Friday morning).Volunteers are needed for the Bus Count aspect of the One Night Count. Volunteers ride the Night Owl bus route from 2-5 AM with someone who has experienced homelessness and count the people that use the bus for shelter. Email volunteer@LIHI.org today if you can volunteer! More information about the One Night Count at www.homelessinfo.org
