Financial Obligations
Submitted by Financial Secretary Grace Festa

Students please remember to turn in textbooks, library books and any borrowed equipment to avoid a financial obligation.  Seniors will need to return books and pay any fines no later than Thursday, June 9 in order to participate in graduation ceremonies. Rising seniors, remember all obligations need to be satisfied if you are applying for a parking space as a senior.  If you are not sure if you have any fines, see Ms. Festa, financial secretary.
Senior Cafeteria PayPam Accounts
Submitted by Cafeteria Manager Jennifer Maskulyak

Parents of Seniors, do you currently utilize a cafeteria PayPam account for your Senior?  Per the CMS Child Nutrition Website

Refunds on Closed Accounts
Parents of students leaving CMS have up to 90 days to request a refund of money on account or have it transferred to another CMS student. Amounts less than $5 will be transferred, upon request, to another CMS student account but not refunded. Contact the Child Nutrition Services office at (980) 343-6041 to request a refund or transfer of money on account.

There are four options regarding end of year balances:

1) A refund-by-check may be requested via email to paypams@cms.k12.nc.us. If your child will be eating lunch for the remainder of this school year, wait to request the refund until after the last day of school or after the last day your child will be purchasing a meal. If you prefer this method, please provide the payee, verify the address you would like the refund check sent to and provide a current telephone number. It will take approximately 6 weeks for the check to complete processing and be mailed to you due to the volume of requests received near the end of a school year.

2) Cafeteria Manager Jennifer Maskulyak has this form that you can fill out for your child and return to her. Then she will send it to the child nutrition department. They will in turn mail you a check at the address on the form.  Again, please wait until your child has purchased his/her last meal.  It takes a minimum of three - six weeks to process.

3) Call (980) 343-6041 to request a refund or transfer of money on account;

4) If there are siblings in CMS, funds may be transferred from one student to another by Child Nutrition Services. If you would like funds transferred, for each child, provide the first name, middle initial, last name, and date of birth. Indicate which child's account the funds are being taken from and which child's account will receive funds. Transfers made on or after the last day of school will update in PayPAMS once the cafeterias reopen in August.  Funds transferred to student's accounts who are changing from one CMS school to another CMS school will transfer with the student to the new school.  If applicable be sure to remove automatic payments and email notifications

If you have any questions, you can contact Hough Cafeteria Manager Jennifer Maskulyak at jennifer.maskulyak@cms.k12.nc.us or email CMS Child Nutrition at paypams@cms.k12.nc.us.

HOUGH ORCHESTRA - A HIDDEN GEM!
Submitted by Terri Lynch

What an AWESOME year for the Hough Orchestra!   Each event was met by Huskies that were prepared and ready for every performance!

Hough was highly represented in the CMS Honors All-County Orchestra, NC Western Regionals Orchestra, All-National Honors Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra and won top scores at MPA and brought home a silver trophy from Washington, DC.

Thanks to Mr. Myers for always striving to bring out the best in each student by challenging them to do far above what they think they are capable of doing! Over the years, he has been instrumental (ha - no pun intended!) in making sure that every student has the opportunity to live up to their potential and follow their dreams by his continued encouragement and support!

Shop On Amazon and Earn Money for HOUGH

Submitted by PTSA Fundraising VP, Debbie Wood

The PTSA now has an account through Amazon Smile.  Please put your online purchases to work and help the school earn money at the same time.

What is AmazonSmile?

AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon that lets customers enjoy the same wide selection of products, low prices, and convenient shopping features as on Amazon.com. The difference is that when customers shop on AmazonSmile (smile.amazon.com), the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the price of eligible purchases to the charitable organizations selected by customers.

How does AmazonSmile work?

When first visiting AmazonSmile, customers are prompted to select a charitable organization from almost one million eligible organizations. In order to browse or shop at AmazonSmile, customers must first select a charitable organization. For eligible purchases at AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price to the customer's selected charitable organization.

Publix Partners
We are excited to announce Hough has started a partnership with Publix grocery stores. Publix Partner cards were distributed to students earlier this school year. All you have to do is show the cashier your card at the BEGINNING of your transaction when checking out and the cashier will scan it for you. For every $37,500 Hough supporters spend at Publix we can earn up to $250 per quarter. If we don't meet the $37,500 in a quarter the tally will run into the next quarter. This is an easy school rewards program that involves no cost on your part. Just be sure to present your card at the BEGINNING of the check out!
Harris Teeter

Thank you to all of the Hough families, friends, and staff who have registered their VIC cards this year.  The program runs August 1 though the end of May each year, so please remember to re-link your card on August 1st.

Hough Howler Submissions
Next Deadline:  June 15 Noon

***Please read this information in its entirety
if you submit articles to the Howler.  Thank you!!!***
Deadlines and Requirements for Articles This Year

The Hough Howler is the electronic newsletter compiled by the Hough PTSA that communicates the most current Hough High School News and and information.  We encourage all Hough staff members, booster clubs and Hough student clubs to provide us information to publicize to the over 2600 Howler e-mail subscribers in the Hough community.  Articles must be specific to Hough, Hough PTSA, Husky Athletic Club, other Hough booster clubs/student clubs or organizations or CMS specific/principal approved.

Deadlines:  During the school year, there are two deadlines a month for articles - the 1st and 15th of each month at NOON.  During the summer months, the Howler has less frequent deadlines.  Please pay attention to these deadlines as sometimes that date is on a weekend or during a holiday.  If there is something urgent that needs to go out, the Howler will be distributed on a more frequent basis at the Editor's discretion. The Howler may be distributed within a few days past the deadline, so please submit your articles on time, or even better, early!  It is best to publicize events with dates that take place at least a week past the deadline.  Sometimes, that means advanced planning and article submission at least one Howler prior. Thank you for your cooperation.

Requirements for submssions:  Articles should be typed in Arial 11 font; if you want a picture included, please indicate placement within text and submit a separate jpg file.  If you want to link to a document or flyer, please send fllyer or document as a pdf file.  If you want it as an image in the article, please send as a jpg file.  If including a picture, please indicate names of those in picture (left to right.) (unless it is a huge group) and identify who is providing the picture.  If no identification is provided, we will identify the name of person providing the submission.  If submission is sent by a student or parent for a Hough club/organization, Hough staff advisor must be copied.  Editor reserves the right to edit or decline articles not meeting the abovementioned criteria.  If you have questions about any of these requirements for submission, please contact the Editor prior to the deadline.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Future 2015-2016 Howler Deadlines:
(2016) June 15 (if necessary)
(Summer) July 1
(2016-2017) First Deadline is August 1, 2016
