Husky Reminders

Now that we are back from spring break, we thought it was time for a few reminders that we have heard on the afternoon announcements with input from our front office:

- To any student parking at Bailey Middle School - This is not allowed.  Your car will be booted or towed.  Do not park there in the future!

- To students parking on any Hough lot without a permit in the designated space - This is not allowed and you will booted or fined.  Do not jeopardize receiving a permit in the future!

- Students, the outside seating area has been trashed.  If this continues, we will close off all outside seating.  Make sure you throw your trash away and pick up fly away napkins and wrapper.  Please clean up after yourselves so that you don't lose this privilege.

- Parents and friends are not allowed to deliver outside food to students.

- We know the weather is getting warmer, but please remember the dress code.  Keep it classy, Huskies!

- Parents, if you are coming in for early dismissal for your student, please make sure to be in the office before 1:45 pm as students will not be dismissed after that time.  Bring an ID.  Also, please park in the lower lot  and not the fire lane in front of the school.

AP Exam and Spring Exam Information
Submitted by Instructional Accountability Facilitator Susan Keiger

1.  Students who will be taking the AP exams in May will need to fill out preregistration information prior to taking the exam.  This can be done after school on April 18, 19 or 21.  Students will report to the cafeteria at 2:20 and it will take approximately one hour.  Students can choose to come on any of those dates.

2.  AP exams will be administered during the first two weeks of May.  Exact exam schedules are available on the College Board website, from your AP course teacher or in the AP Bulletin for Students and Parents that was given out several weeks ago.  All Hough AP exams are given off site at Cove Church in Mooresville.  Students will receive more specific information the week of April 11 as well as directions and a parental permission slip for driving to the site that must be signed and returned to Mrs. Keiger, the testing coordinator.

3.  Spring Exams will start on June 3rd.  We will release the specific schedule later but for planning purposes it will be pretty much the same as the exam schedule in January.  The last day of school and exams is June 9.

Important Senior Reminders

***Senior Parents - Has your child received any scholarship offers from schools they have applied to?  Send in copies of ALL scholarship offers he/she has received for them to be honored at our Senior Awards Ceremony in May. Your child DOES NOT need to accept the award. For example, some of our top academic students may receive scholarships offering them in-state tuition to an out-of-state school like South Carolina. THAT COUNTS!  Send in ALL offers received. This is our opportunity to highlight our seniors' achievements as compared to other schools in our district and state as the school's grand total is shared publically.  See Mrs. Catchpole in Student Services with your questions or email her at danam.catchpole@cms.k12.nc.us.

Seniors, don't forget to update your Naviance account once you hear from Colleges of your acceptance, deferral or denial.

Seniors, are you looking for $ for College?  Mrs. Catchpole (Scholarship Chairperson), would like you to join HOUGH HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS!! To receive messages via text, text @wahscholar to 81010.  You can opt-out of messages at anytime by replying, "unsubscribe@wahscholar'.  Trouble using 81010?  Try texting @wahscholar to (704) 817-2336 instead.

Attention All Hough Students and Families:  Please visit the Student Services Website often to provide students and families with important information regarding programs we offer, college planning, scholarship opportunities and other extremely useful information pertinent to high school.  We continue to update the site through the school year so we encourage you to bookmark it and visit often.  We also encourage you to follow our Twitter @HoughGuidance.

How does AmazonSmile work?

The Howler may be distributed within a few days past the deadline, so please submit your articles on time, or even better, early!  It is best to publicize events with dates that take place at least a week past the deadline.  Sometimes, that means advanced planning and article submission at least one Howler prior. Thank you for your cooperation.

Requirements for submssions:  Articles should be typed in Arial 11 font; if you want a picture included, please indicate placement within text and submit a separate jpg file.  If you want to link to a document or flyer, please send fllyer or document as a pdf file.  If you want it as an image in the article, please send as a jpg file.  If including a picture, please indicate names of those in picture (left to right.) (unless it is a huge group) and identify who is providing the picture.  If no identification is provided, we will identify the name of person providing the submission.  If submission is sent by a student or parent for a Hough club/organization, Hough staff advisor must be copied.  Editor reserves the right to edit or decline articles not meeting the abovementioned criteria.  If you have questions about any of these requirements for submission, please contact the Editor prior to the deadline.  Thank you for your cooperation.
