Hough World Languages Department Presents
International Week
March 21-24
Submitted by Airam Guiterrez-Hammond
Dear Hough Community,
Last year, the World Language Department initiated the idea of celebrating an International Week in our school. We held "Celebrate the World" as our theme and had fun decorating the cafeteria, hallways, and classrooms!
Around the school, there were cultural and global math project displays, gallery crawls; collection of global web ads relevant to culture and languages; book displays with fiction and nonfiction that were focused on other countries; we fundraised international awareness t-shirts; we enjoyed a huge world map in upper C hallway where students indicated where they were from/have been/or would like to visit; we painted the big rock outside with international themes....and...you name it! It was a fantastic first International Awareness Week! THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED AND SUPPORTED THE WORLD LANGUAGE INITIATIVE!
This year our theme is EMPATHY and our colors are ORANGE and WHITE.
International week will be celebrated March 21 until March 24 this year!
Visit www.startempathy.org for more information. There is no better time to bring empathy to our classrooms. Please take a moment to watch the Start Empathy Video and learn new ways to embrace empathy in your everyday classroom connections. It is our hope that you can support our International Week 2015-2016.
Sincerely,
The World Language Department
