Submitted by PTSA Bookfair Chairperson, Deana King

Hough PTSA is partnering with Main Street Books of Davidson to supply supplemental reading materials assigned by teachers for students to purchase. By buying the books requested by the teachers at Main Street Books, you will be supporting a local small business in our community while raising funds for our school. Main Street Books will donate 10%-20% of the sale price for all ordered titles purchased at the store, at any point during the school year that it is assigned. The only books that will be available in multiple copies are ones that teachers have requested for the store to carry, so when a book is assigned, check with your teacher to see if they have placed the order.
Currently in stock at Main Street Books are the following:
Hudak: The Number Devil by Hans Mangus Enzenberger
Roberts: Cry the Beloved Country by Alan Paton
Roberts: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
Roberts: Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Hough Staff, Parents and Students,

Please see the attached flyer for an opportunity to support a former Hough colleague and a great cause. The Ocular Melanoma Foundation is sponsoring a 5K Walk Run on Saturday, September 26th in the Huntersville Business Park to raise money for Dr. Sato's continued research to find a cure for Ocular Melanoma and to help support the local community patients who are continuing treatment of Ocular Melanoma.  Dr. Sato is a world renowned OM surgeon and he is flying in from Philadelphia to speak on this day.  There have been several persons in our community who were diagnosed with Ocular Melanoma, including Kenan Colbert, daughter of our former Career Development Coordinator Sue Colbert.

I have created a team for Hough and I encourage my fellow Husky families to join me as participants (individuals, clubs or sports teams) or assist as volunteers (community service!)  Please click this link to join our team.  Thank you for your consideration and Go Huskies!

College Application Week:

Monday, November 2 - Friday, November 6th
 Submitted by Jeanette Culek

NC College Application Week is a state-wide promotional week for NC high school seniors to apply to colleges and universities in North Carolina. CAW's popularity has led some colleges and universities to decide to entirely waive the application fee during this week. Not every participating college or university waives their application fee; however for those who qualify they will accept the College Board College Application Fee Waiver during CAW. This is a great way to save money and apply to NC colleges and universities. Check out this link and this flyer for participating schools and more info!

Hough Computer Lab will be open on Tuesday, November 3rd for application assistance.  Please sign up for a time slot to get assistance on your college applications!   SIGN up for a time slot in computer lab by 10/28 at the following link.
