 Election for Parent Member Positions
Please apply by Monday, September 14
Submitted by SLT Chair, Stephanie Sparks

The School Leadership Team (SLT) is a collaborative effort whose primary purpose is to develop and implement our annual School Improvement Plan (SIP). This guiding document is continually reviewed and modified to ensure that our students have programming and resources in place to help them achieve to their greatest potential. The primary areas that are discussed are: curriculum, data, school safety, communication, and school climate. It is a committee comprised of the Principal, staff members, parent volunteers, and community members.

SLT meetings are held monthly.  Our regular meeting time will be Monday evenings at 5:30 pm on roughly the third Monday of each month.  We are seeking parent volunteers to join our School Leadership Team.  If you w ould like to be considered as a member of our SLT team, please email SLT Chair Stephanie Sparks at Stephanie@SparksEmail.com by midnight on Monday, September 14.  Include a short bio containing the following information:

- Your name
- Grade(s) of your child(ren) at Hough
- Current or previous involvement at the school level
- Any other relevant information you feel necessary to communicate to show that you are a good candidate for the School Leadership Team (SLT)  Please keep it brief.

The Hough SLT is composed of a small group of parent members alongside staff who serve two year terms.  Based on the number of parent members who are rolling off, we anticipate at least 2 openings.  Depending on the number of applicants, we will determine if an election is necessary.  If an election becomes necessary, the bios will be sent out to the Hough community and an electronic vote will be taken prior to the first meeting.  If you are selected as member of the Hough SLT For 2015-2016, you must attend the first MANDATORY meeting on Monday, September 28 at 5:30 pm.   All SLT members will be voted in by our PTSA during Curriculum Night on Monday, September 21.

ANNOUNCING A NEW PTSA COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP
WITH

Submitted by PTSA Bookfair Chairperson, Deanna King

This year Main Street Books and the Hough PTSA have paired up to provide copies of any book titles that teachers from Hough assign to their students for units of study.  Once teachers assign the book, a bulk order will be made with Main Street Books and multiple copies will be made available for students to purchase.  The store has agreed to donate back to the PTSA 10-20% of all sales of the books ordered for our school.  This will be true for any purchase made during the entire school year, not just for a short window at the start of each semester.  The PTSA is excited to offer this opportunity for our students while providing flexibility to our teachers, raising funds for the many PTSA projects planned for the school year, and supporting a small business within our school's community.  So when it's time to get that assigned novel, help us support Hough High School by supporting Main Street Books as well.
