FROM OUR COUNSELORS
News from the Counseling Department
Week of May 9, 2016

We would like to congratulate all of the graduating seniors and their families on their accomplishments and to wish the rest of you a wonderful summer. We will see you in the fall!

Some final thoughts about College Research this summer and the Junior/Senior Handbook
We encourage all students to be engaging in college research this summer, particularly juniors. Juniors should come back to school in the fall with a list of schools that they plan to apply to as the college application season begins in August! The counseling department puts together a Junior/Senior Handbook every year that can be a significant resource for you as you go through the college search process, college application process, and plan for life after high school. Please utilize the handbook! You can find it at: http://www.amphi.com/domain/3091.

GRADUATION OPPORTUNITY - PREMIUM SEATING

PREMIUM SEATING OPPORTUNITY DURING
GRADUATION 2016

Seating in our facility on graduation night is somewhat limited and each year we have a few unhappy parents who were not able to sit where they would like. Understandably, parents want to come in and save seats for their family; however that quickly eliminates all of the best seats so that those who have patiently waited in line for a period of time have no chance for seats in choice locations. Because of this, the following opportunity has been instituted to offer "Premium Seating."

"PREMIUM SEATING" will be sold for $10 per seat. "Premium" seats will be located in a premium bleacher location with good view of the graduation ceremony. So not only will you be sitting in a comfortable padded bleacher seat but you will also have a "Premium" view. "Premium" seats can only be purchased in advance by using the Paypal link below. There are 144 "Premium" seats available on a first come, first served basis and will be seated in a consecutive manner (example first family of 4 will be seated in seats 1-4). So please purchase family seating together to ensure seating will be together. NOTE: NO REFUNDS FOR PURCHASED SEATS.

All proceeds go to IB Parent Booster Club and IB student needs throughout the year.

CDO ODYSSEY OF THE MIND GOES TO WORLD

Canyon del Oro Odyssey Teams continue the record of excellence that has been set by 30 years of teams.
This year CDO is proud to announce that two CDO Odyssey teams will be competing at the World Finals competition the week of May 24th - 29th.  These two teams are returning state champs from last year and have successfully defended their titles.  We are asking for any CDO parents, teachers and alumni to please donate to our travel fund by dropping off tax credit donations to the CDO bookstore or sending them the Cymry DeBoucher at CDO.  Please indicate on the form that this donation is for Odyssey World Finals Travel Fund.

Canyon Del Oro HS scores an Odyssey hat trick by setting a new state record for most Ranatra Fusca Awards in one tournament.  On Saturday, April 9th, CDO was awarded the most vaunted and respected award that can be achieved at an Odyssey of the Mind tournament three times.  The Ranatra Fusca Award is only conferred when a team or an individual demonstrates outstanding creativity.  The three awards were achieved in different categories of problem solving.  CDO's sophomore team (Dean Selegue, Garrison Synnestvedt, Micah Secrest, Thomas Gaston, Giang Nguyen, Jason Ronstadt ) was awarded a team Ranatra for a riotously humorous performance that featured inspired ad-libs.  They mesmerized an SRO audience which laughed until it cried.  The second award was won for the impressive spontaneous problem solving performance by the CDO Administrative team for their out-side-the-gymnasium flexible thinking and remarkable teamwork which saved both the Odyssey tournament and a volleyball tournament.  The final award was an individual award for creative problem solving both within the Odyssey program and in the greater community.  Robert DeBoucher was awarded a life-time achievement Ranatra for his exceptional performance over 12 years within the program, during which he will have competed in 9 problems at World Finals; as well as his creative contributions to the state-wide Odyssey program.

Canyon Del Oro senior, Sarah Sheldon is the first student is school history to win a state championship in both Academic Decathlon and Odyssey of the Mind in the same year!  She will be representing CDO and the state of Arizona at the upcoming Academic Decathlon Nationals (April) and the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals (May)

Canyon Del Oro Odyssey on the Mind team seniors, Sarah Sheldon, Jade D'Auteuil, and Robert DeBoucher have won four state championships in three years!  They are looking forward to attending World Finals one last time with new team mates Max Leone (senior) and Cade Walsh (junior).

Please support this phenomenal program by donating Tax Credit money to CDO or donating a donation through CDO Parent Organization (Attn OM) with a check to the CDO Office or paypal link, below.

CDO ANNOUNCEMENTS

DRESS CODE

  • HEY DORADOS!  This is a reminder that the dress code is still in effect.  Ladies, your tops must have straps on the shoulders, no showing or exposed undergarments and your midriff, front and back, must be covered.  Open or exposed backs on shirts are not allowed, either. Gentlemen, same for you: no exposed undergarments, no tank tops where the armpit hole extends to the waist, no exposed midriff and no images or language on shirts that violate the dress code.  Dress code violators will be directed to Mrs. Henkel in Counseling where they will exchange their top for a CDO t-shirt.  Keep it classy CDO.

STUDENT IDs

  • A GENTLE REMINDER ABOUT IDs:  IDs must be worn and displayed while on campus by all students. Around the neck or on the bag facing front is perfectly acceptable.  In the pocket or out of site is unacceptable - students must have it on and showing. If you don't have it on or showing in front you will most likely receive a lunch detention.  Thanks for your thoughtful cooperation.
