CDO Odyssey of the Mind going to World

Canyon del Oro Odyssey Teams continue the record of excellence that has been set by 30 years of teams.
This year CDO is proud to announce that two CDO Odyssey teams will be competing at the World Finals competition the week of May 24th - 29th.  These two teams are returning state champs from last year and have successfully defended their titles.  We are asking for any CDO parents, teachers and alumni to please donate to our travel fund by dropping off tax credit donations to the CDO bookstore or sending them the Cymry DeBoucher at CDO.  Please indicate on the form that this donation is for Odyssey World Finals Travel Fund.

Canyon Del Oro HS scores an Odyssey hat trick by setting a new state record for most Ranatra Fusca Awards in one tournament.  On Saturday, April 9th, CDO was awarded the most vaunted and respected award that can be achieved at an Odyssey of the Mind tournament three times.  The Ranatra Fusca Award is only conferred when a team or an individual demonstrates outstanding creativity.  The three awards were achieved in different categories of problem solving.  CDO's sophomore team (Dean Selegue, Garrison Synnestvedt, Micah Secrest, Thomas Gaston, Giang Nguyen, Jason Ronstadt ) was awarded a team Ranatra for a riotously humorous performance that featured inspired ad-libs.  They mesmerized an SRO audience which laughed until it cried.  The second award was won for the impressive spontaneous problem solving performance by the CDO Administrative team for their out-side-the-gymnasium flexible thinking and remarkable teamwork which saved both the Odyssey tournament and a volleyball tournament.  The final award was an individual award for creative problem solving both within the Odyssey program and in the greater community.  Robert DeBoucher was awarded a life-time achievement Ranatra for his exceptional performance over 12 years within the program, during which he will have competed in 9 problems at World Finals; as well as his creative contributions to the state-wide Odyssey program.

Canyon Del Oro senior, Sarah Sheldon is the first student is school history to win a state championship in both Academic Decathlon and Odyssey of the Mind in the same year!  She will be representing CDO and the state of Arizona at the upcoming Academic Decathlon Nationals (April) and the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals (May)

Canyon Del Oro Odyssey on the Mind team seniors, Sarah Sheldon, Jade D'Auteuil, and Robert DeBoucher have won four state championships in three years!  They are looking forward to attending World Finals one last time with new team mates Max Leone (senior) and Cade Walsh (junior).

Please support this phenomenal program by donating Tax Credit money to CDO or donating a donation through CDO Parent Organization (Attn OM) with a check to the CDO Office or paypal link, below.

Please volunteer

Volunteer during the week preceding the event, the night of the event and/or the morning after the event.

Parents of Freshmen-Juniors - Project Grad is a spectacular program that keeps our CDO graduates safe after graduation.  But this event requires more than 125 volunteers to put it on that night and dozens of volunteers in the days leading up to the event.

We want to have this event available for when our students graduate so we need to support this event by volunteering throughout our student's time at CDO.  Shifts may be as short as 90 minutes or up to a few hours.

Check out the volunteer positions - many different types of jobs
  • Register the graduates at the event
  • Decorate the location for the event
  • Prep for the event (days before)
  • Setup the scenes
  • Hang the curtains

  • Bring a friend with you to volunteer - Double the fun.

Parents of seniors - We want you to volunteer- You'll be busy during graduation, so volunteer before the event or after 8:15pm (after graduation ends).  Celebrate this event with your friends and know that your student is safe with friends and having a great evening.
