News from the Counseling Department
Week of March 7, 2016
We wish you all a wonderful, relaxing Spring Break next week!
Course Selection for 2016-17 is now complete!
If your student was absent on the day that his/her English class went to the computer lab to enter their course requests for next year, please have your student submit his/her completed course selection sheet to the counseling office ASAP. If your student needs help selecting classes, please have him/her make an appointment to see his/her counselor.
Students who plan on taking a first hour class next year and have not already submitted a First Hour Contract (which includes a parent signature) to the Administration office are reminded that those contracts are due no later than this Friday, March 4. If your student has not picked up a First Hour Contract yet, it can be picked up in the counseling office.
Friendly Reminder....
College Planning Night for Juniors will be held on Wednesday, March 9 at 6:00 pm in the CDO Café.
ECAP Reminder
As a reminder, an Education and Career Action Plan (ECAP) is a graduation requirement for all Arizona students. The Amphitheater district is using a combination of the internet based AzCIS program and a hardcopy "ECAP Plan" sheet, in addition to the many other ECAP supporting activities offered on a regular basis to students and parents (i.e. college fairs, evening presentations, classroom guidance lessons, resume writing, etc.), to help students meet this requirement. AzCIS allows CDO students full time access to exploring, creating, and researching their ECAP.
The CDO counseling department is working in partnership with classroom teachers to assist students in using this program throughout the school year as they develop their ECAP. Students and parents are encouraged to log on to this system at any time and work together in developing a functional ECAP.
All students should already have an AzCIS account, but if your student does not yet have one, please visit www.azcis.intocareers.org and use the user name: canyondohs and password: 4azcis02. Students will then create their own accounts for future use.
The overall goal for the ECAP is to formulate a post high school career pathway. Each student is expected to have a clear plan to either be prepared to directly enter the workforce, attend a junior college, trade school, technical school, university or enter the military. Research shows that a well thought out post-high school plan offers a student an opportunity to meet with early success as they begin their journey toward a rewarding career.
Please ask to see your student's AzCIS portfolio and talk with them about their plan. Thanks!
Seniors who have been admitted to the University of Arizona...
CDO is hosting a Diaper Drive through the month of March. Please bring diaper donations to the administration office and help support Amphi families in need!

Attention CDO Family:
The CDO Sign Language Club needs your help during the month of March for the 10th year of our service project called: Adopting CDO's Own. We gather items to send to members of the CDO family who are in the military serving overseas and we want to make sure we send them lots of fun things! The boxes are in various teachers' classroom. Also in the classrooms are donation jars for funds to help pay for the postage. If you know of someone who is serving overseas, please send their full APO address to Mrs. Sillman so we may include them.
Items, as well as money for postage, may be brought to the school to the attention of Mrs. Sillman, American Sign Language program ( nsillman@amphi.com or 696-5661).
When you go shopping, please think of those who are so very far from home and purchase one extra item for them. We send things such as Pringles, boxes of candy (like "Mike and Ike" or "Good and Plenty"), white socks, light blankets, small stuffed animals, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, twin size bed sheets, etc. Attached is a list of suggested items. Thank you for assisting us with this worthwhile project! CDO cares!!

Please discuss the attached application and encourage your self-driven students to apply? We will still have some Canyon Del Oro High School students remaining, but will need to fill a few vacancies. The application deadline is Friday, March 25, 2016, by 5 p.m.

PARENT ORGANIZATION UPDATE
|
Dear CDO Parent Community,
We would like to thank the 13 families that have donated to the CDO Parent Organization since our recent email request. As of now, we have received $710 towards our goal of covering our newsletter costs and staff appreciation commitments for this year. We are hopeful that more families will donate to support our efforts in providing weekly parent communication and regular staff appreciation events.
Please consider a donation to CDO Parent Org so that we can cover our newsletter costs. If every family that reads our weekly email donated, we could cover all of our costs for our newsletter annual fee and staff appreciation events throughout the year.
Please drop off a donation to the office for CDO Parent Org or use our donate button below. We will provide you with a tax receipt for your donation.
Thanks CDO Parent Organization

PARENT OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE FEEDBACK
Here are links to the two different parent surveys that need to be done for CDO. We have until Spring Break to get as many surveys completed as possible. These are the same surveys that all of the schools need to complete. Each survey gives the parent the opportunity to pick the school that they are filling out the survey for in case they have students in more than one school. The students will complete their surveys at school through their math classes.
The AdvancEd Survey:
2015 - 16 Parent Survey (K-12)
In an effort to improve system practices, Amphitheater Unified District 10 is conducting a Parent Survey. We value your opinion and ask that you take the time to complete this survey.
In order to complete the survey, please go to:
Please be assured that your responses to this survey will be anonymous. Your honest opinion is appreciated. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
The School Quality Survey:
Parent Survey about School Quality 2015-16
Here are the links you need to the online versions for the school quality survey.
Link to the Spanish parent survey
Link to the English parent survey
If you want to complete more than one survey for kids in different schools, you will need to click the link again.

CDO ANNOUNCEMENTS
DRESS CODE
- HEY DORADOS! This is a reminder that the dress code is still in effect. Ladies, your tops must have straps on the shoulders, no showing or exposed undergarments and your midriff, front and back, must be covered. Open or exposed backs on shirts are not allowed, either. Gentlemen, same for you: no exposed undergarments, no tank tops where the armpit hole extends to the waist, no exposed midriff and no images or language on shirts that violate the dress code. Dress code violators will be directed to Mrs. Henkel in Counseling where they will exchange their top for a CDO t-shirt. Keep it classy CDO.
STUDENT IDs
- A GENTLE REMINDER ABOUT IDs: IDs must be worn and displayed while on campus by all students. Around the neck or on the bag facing front is perfectly acceptable. In the pocket or out of site is unacceptable - students must have it on and showing. If you don't have it on or showing in front you will most likely receive a lunch detention. Thanks for your thoughtful cooperation.
