News from the Counseling Department
Week of February 29, 2016
Course Selection for 2016-17 is now complete!
If your student was absent on the day that his/her English class went to the computer lab to enter their course requests for next year, please have your student submit his/her completed course selection sheet to the counseling office ASAP. If your student needs help selecting classes, please have him/her make an appointment to see his/her counselor.
Students who plan on taking a first hour class next year and have not already submitted a First Hour Contract (which includes a parent signature) to the Administration office are reminded that those contracts are due no later than this Friday, March 4. If your student has not picked up a First Hour Contract yet, it can be picked up in the counseling office.
CDO is hosting a Diaper Drive through the month of March. Please bring diaper donations to the administration office and help support Amphi families in need!

Scholarship Spotlight:
The Quest Bridge College Prep Scholarship is aprogram designed to give high school juniors who have shown outstanding academic ability despite financial challenges an advantage in college admissions. While there is no absolute criteria or cut-offs for GPA, standardized test scores, or income and they take a holistic approach in reviewing applications, when selecting College Prep Scholars, they try to answer the following questions:
- "Does this student have the potential to thrive at one of our partner colleges?" (looking for students who have taken a rigorous academic program)
- "Has this student overcome socio-economic obstacles to achieve academic excellence?" (typically looking for students who come from a family income of less than $65,000 annually for a family of four)
Deadline = March 23, 2016

Attention CDO Family:
The CDO Sign Language Club needs your help during the month of March for the 10th year of our service project called: Adopting CDO's Own. We gather items to send to members of the CDO family who are in the military serving overseas and we want to make sure we send them lots of fun things! The boxes are in various teachers' classroom. Also in the classrooms are donation jars for funds to help pay for the postage. If you know of someone who is serving overseas, please send their full APO address to Mrs. Sillman so we may include them.
Items, as well as money for postage, may be brought to the school to the attention of Mrs. Sillman, American Sign Language program (nsillman@amphi.com or 696-5661).
When you go shopping, please think of those who are so very far from home and purchase one extra item for them. We send things such as Pringles, boxes of candy (like "Mike and Ike" or "Good and Plenty"), white socks, light blankets, small stuffed animals, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, twin size bed sheets, etc. Attached is a list of suggested items. Thank you for assisting us with this worthwhile project! CDO cares!!

The Oro Valley Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is once again, looking for new members to replace our graduating members. As you are aware, YAC was successfully started in 2012 to help bring together Oro Valley's youth, giving them a voice in our community.
Please discuss the attached application and encourage your self-driven students to apply? We will still have some Canyon Del Oro High School students remaining, but will need to fill a few vacancies. The application deadline is Friday, March 25, 2016, by 5 p.m.

CDO REACH Parents:
Please check your email (Tuesday, February 9) for the REACH Parent Survey. We are hoping that all the parents of REACH students will complete the survey. Most REACH students at CDO completed the student survey this past week. The students who did not complete the survey will be provided an opportunity to do so in the next few weeks. Thanks so much for your help. Honors Internship 101 and 102 Students who have enrolled in the Honors Internship 101 and 102 classes for next school year should plan to attend the prep seminars during early out mornings in March, April and May. Plan to attend one session each month to prepare for finding internships and learning the procedures for documenting your summer work. Permission slips are available in the counseling office and on-line at the CDO Reach Parent Wiki http://cdogifted.wikispaces.com/Announcements+%26+Events (scroll to the bottom of the page to find the passes).

PARENT ORGANIZATION UPDATE
|
Dear CDO Parent Community,
We would like to thank the 12 families that have donated to the CDO Parent Organization since our recent email request. As of now, we have received $610 towards our goal of covering our newsletter costs and staff appreciation commitments for this year. We are hopeful that more families will donate to support our efforts in providing weekly parent communication and regular staff appreciation events.
Please consider a donation to CDO Parent Org so that we can cover our newsletter costs. If every family that reads our weekly email donated, we could cover all of our costs for our newsletter annual fee and staff appreciation events throughout the year.
Please drop off a donation to the office for CDO Parent Org or use our donate button below. We will provide you with a tax receipt for your donation.
Thanks CDO Parent Organization

PARENT OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE FEEDBACK
Here are links to the two different parent surveys that need to be done for CDO. We have until Spring Break to get as many surveys completed as possible. These are the same surveys that all of the schools need to complete. Each survey gives the parent the opportunity to pick the school that they are filling out the survey for in case they have students in more than one school. The students will complete their surveys at school through their math classes.
The AdvancEd Survey:

CDO ANNOUNCEMENTS
DRESS CODE
- HEY DORADOS! This is a reminder that the dress code is still in effect. Ladies, your tops must have straps on the shoulders, no showing or exposed undergarments and your midriff, front and back, must be covered. Open or exposed backs on shirts are not allowed, either. Gentlemen, same for you: no exposed undergarments, no tank tops where the armpit hole extends to the waist, no exposed midriff and no images or language on shirts that violate the dress code. Dress code violators will be directed to Mrs. Henkel in Counseling where they will exchange their top for a CDO t-shirt. Keep it classy CDO.
STUDENT IDs
- A GENTLE REMINDER ABOUT IDs: IDs must be worn and displayed while on campus by all students. Around the neck or on the bag facing front is perfectly acceptable. In the pocket or out of site is unacceptable - students must have it on and showing. If you don't have it on or showing in front you will most likely receive a lunch detention. Thanks for your thoughtful cooperation.
