CONGRATULATIONS    ACADEMIC DECATHLON

For the first time ever, the CDO Academic Decathlon has won the state championship for the second consecutive year. Our well-balanced team beat arch-rivals Mesa Mountain View handily to earn the right to represent Arizona at the United States Academic Decathlon Finals in Garden Grove, CA in April.

1.      46,341 Canyon del Oro
2.      44,810 Mesa Mountain View
3.      44,173 Westwood
4.      43,390 Campo Verde
5.      42,206 Red Mountain
(35 other teams)

In a very tough competition against the best 40 teams in Arizona, CDO earned 24 medals.

  • Nicole Enos: gold medal in Art
  • Luisa Placencia: bronze medal in Art, silver medal in Social Science
  • Christina Redford: no medals, but a solid performance overall
  • Michael Yuhas: gold in Art, gold in Economics, silver in Social Science, bronze in Music, and Scholastic bronze overall (all ten events)
  • Sarah Spurlin: gold in Literature and gold in Music
  • Mason Sargent: gold in Math, silver in Music, bronze in Social Science, bronze in Literature, and Scholastic silver overall (all ten events)
  • Caleb Yetman: gold in Music, gold in Social Science, gold in Interview, silver in Math, and Varsity gold overall (all ten events)
  • Martin Ramirez: bronze in Music, bronze in Art
  • Matt Welch: silver in literature, bronze in Essay

Caleb won a special trophy for the best Interview score for the entire competition (out of more than 400 students).
Matt won a special trophy for the best essay of all competitors.

This victory reflects 100s of hours of work on the part of these students. Yet even more important, they received a standing ovation from the audience as they are well-liked and friendly and represent their school and district very well. We are very proud of them.

Gov Board Member Town Hall Meeting
Good Morning Friends:

Scott Leska, Member, Amphi School Board is having an upcoming Town-Hall meeting for the Amphi School District. This Town-Hall is a great way for him to find out what is on your mind. This is the second Meeting that he has scheduled since election to the Amphitheater School Board last November. It was his promise to you, during his campaign that he would listen to you. He wants to hear what you have to say about Amphi.
Please mark your calendars for this great event:

Date: Saturday, April 11, 2015
Time: 1:00PM
Where: Nanini Public Library (7300 N. Shannon Rd. Tucson, AZ)

There was a great turnout in January, and participants discussed some really important subjects. He is  hoping that at least one other board member may attend as well. This will broaden the discussion, so your concerns will have more impact.

Thanks again for all your support!

Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions,

Scott Leska
Member, Amphi School Board

ADOPTING CDO'S OWN
SIGN LANGUAGE CLUB
ADOPTING CDO'S OWN

THE CDO Sign Language Club service project, Adopting CDO's Own, is in full swing during the months of February and March.
We are collecting items to ship to military personnel who are serving overseas.  We are looking for cookies, candy, small stuffed animals, white socks, baby wipes, flash drives, etc.  All classrooms will have a donation box with a complete list of items and a copy is attached.  We also need money for postage.
Please bring your donations to your child's classroom teacher or Mrs. Sillman in Room G-706; e-mail: nsillman@amphi.com Phone:  696-5661.  Also, if you know someone who is serving overseas (CDO grad, relative, friend or neighbor) please give their complete APO address to a Club member or Mrs. Sillman so we can send them some fun items and let them know we are thinking about them!

CDO ANNOUNCEMENTS

DRESS CODE

  • HEY DORADOS!  This is a reminder that the dress code is still in effect.  Ladies, your tops must have straps on the shoulders, no showing or exposed undergarments and your midriff, front and back, must be covered.  Open or exposed backs on shirts are not allowed, either. Gentlemen, same for you: no exposed undergarments, no tank tops where the armpit hole extends to the waist, no exposed midriff and no images or language on shirts that violate the dress code.  Dress code violators will be directed to Mrs. Henkel in Counseling where they will exchange their top for a CDO t-shirt.  Keep it classy CDO.

STUDENT IDs

  • A GENTLE REMINDER ABOUT IDs:  IDs must be worn and displayed while on campus by all students. Around the neck or on the bag facing front is perfectly acceptable.  In the pocket or out of site is unacceptable - students must have it on and showing. If you don't have it on or showing in front you will most likely receive a lunch detention.  Thanks for your thoughtful cooperation.
