ECAP update
As a friendly reminder, all students should be working on updating their ECAP (Education and Career Action Plan) on a regular basis. Counselors will be visiting the senior English classes later this month to give seniors one final opportunity to finalize their ECAP summary card before graduation. If your senior does not have an English class on the CDO campus this year, please have your student see his/her counselor ASAP to finalize his/her ECAP.
Please remember that students can visit www.azcis.intocareers.org(user name: canyondohs and password: 4azcis02) anytime to continue to work on their ECAP. ECAP summary cards are housed in the counseling office.
Summer Opportunities
Just a friendly reminder that there are still many great summer programs available for students of all ages this summer. Counselor, Ms. Pati Mapp has been hard at work organizing a list of these opportunities for you:http://www.amphi.com/schools/cdo-high/counseling-page/summer-resources.aspx.
Summer School
Summer school will be offered this summer through the Amphitheater School District and it will be held at CDO. For specific information regarding registration and courses available, please visit http://www.amphi.com/district/amphitheater-community-schools.aspxor pick up a summer school flyer in the counseling office.
The district will also be offering online summer school again this summer through MDLP. For more information please visit http://www.amphi.com/district/online-summer-school.aspx. Students will need to have an online advisement form completed by their counselor before they can register for online summer school. Please have your student schedule an appointment with his/her counselor to discuss this further if there is an interest in taking an online summer class.
Pima Community College Orientation
Attention seniors! If you plan on attending Pima Community College next year please be sure to secure your Fall schedule of classes by attending CDO's very own private new student orientation on May 1st from 2-4 pm. The deadline to register for this orientation is April 18 and you MUST register for a Pima student ID number at pima.edu, go to Pima and take your assessments and then return to CDO and see your counselor with your assessment scores before you can register for the orientation. At the orientation you will get registered for your classes and find out how to qualify for additional scholarships. This is a great way to secure a schedule before the general public and the rest of pima county's graduating seniors. You do not have to pay for the classes until August. DON'T wait till after graduation to register for classes - Plan early and be prepared for the next step.
SAT/ACT for Juniors
As a reminder, we highly recommend that all juniors who are considering attending a four-year university immediately after graduation take the SAT and/or ACT in the spring of the junior year. There is one more opportunity for each test this school year. The SAT will be given on June 7 and the ACT will be given on June 14. The registration deadline for both is May 9. To register, visit http://sat.collegeboard.org for the SAT and www.actstudent.org for the ACT. Please contact your student's counselor if you have any questions!
Debbie Clark Memorial Scholarship
Seniors who graduated 8th grade from Cross Middle School are now eligible to apply for the Debbie Clark Memorial Scholarship! The Cross Middle School Parent Teacher Organization will award up to four $250 scholarships to deserving CDO seniors that were promoted from Cross Middle School. Please pick up an application in the counseling office. Applications are due no later than Wednesday, April 23.
Freshman and Sophomores: National PSAT Practice Test Day is May 3
Kaplan is happy to announce their upcoming National PSAT Practice Day! The Tucson portion of the event will take place on May 3rd from 9-12 at Pima Community College's NW campus. Freshman and sophomores will have the opportunity to take a realistic, full-length PSAT for free. Students will receive a score report via email with information about their testing strengths and weaknesses. This will give them the valuable opportunity to spend time in the summer preparing for the PSAT and to put themselves in a better position to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship competition when they take the PSAT their junior year. For more information, and to sign up, please visit http://kaptest.com/countdown.
The Counseling Website Has Moved!
Because students were not able to access our website from on-campus (google sites are blocked for students on campus), we made the decision to change our site over to a Novus site (the district approved site). A huge "Thank you!" goes out to Ms. Paula Evans who took the lead on this project and got it done so quickly!! The new site can be accessed directly at: http://www.amphi.com/schools/cdo-high/counseling-page.aspx. For those of you who had the old site bookmarked, we're very sorry but we've shut it down. You can find all of the same information on our new site that was on our old site.
