Course Selection Reminder
Parents, please remind your 9th, 10th, and 11th graders to bring their completed 2014-15 course selection sheets to their English class next week so that they are prepared to enter those course selections into the computer with the assistance of the counselors. If you or your student still have questions about which classes should be taken next year, please make an appointment with your student's counselor.

Visiting College Campuses
Spring Break is a fantastic time to visit colleges! As you begin to think about your spring break plans, consider including a visit to a college campus or two. It is never too early to begin visiting colleges, and it is an important part of the college decision making process. Websites and college mailings always have beautiful pictures in them, but they don't tell the whole story. It is important for students to have the chance to visit the campus(es) of the college(s) they are interested in attending before they make their final decision - and that includes the U of A. The U of A is about more than just the football stadium or basketball arena; the two parts of campus that most of our students have visited. It is important to visit campus during the week, during the day, so that students can get a real sense of what the campus is like. All colleges offer free campus tour programs; some are just an hour or two, and others are an all day event. You can register for these opportunities on the college website (usually under the "admissions" or "prospective students" links) and it is important to register ahead of time; don't just show up and expect to be shown around. Happy touring!
Seniors who have been admitted to the University of Arizona...
Don't forget to check your "Next Steps" center for important information!! Also, once you have been admitted, you have access to the Scholarship Universe where you can find a multitude of scholarship opportunities! Visit https://scholarshipuniverse.arizona.edu/splash/splash.aspx
First Hour Contracts
Students who plan on taking a first hour class next year need to complete a First Hour Contract (which includes a parent signature) and return it to the Administration office no later than March 14. If your student has not picked up a First Hour Contract yet, it can be picked up in the counseling office. Please note: IB students will all have a first hour class and do NOT have to complete a First Hour Contract.
SAT and ACT Registration
It is time for college bound juniors to start looking into registering for these exams. College bound juniors should take an SAT and/or ACT during the spring of their junior year. This allows plenty of time to retest early in the senior year if desired and still meet college application deadlines. Registration for the SAT occurs at http://sat.collegeboard.org and registration for the ACT occurs at www.actstudent.org. Please contact your students' counselor if you have any questions about either of these exams.
It's time to start thinking about what your student is going to do this summer!
There are many options available to high school students throughout the summer to improve their academic skills, investigate various career fields, experience college life, give back to their communities, and many other opportunities. We will be compiling a list of various summer opportunities and posting them on our website at http://sites.google.com/site/canyondelorocounseling (scroll down and click on "Summer Bulletin" on the lower left). Please check the list often as more opportunities will be added on a regular basis as they become available.
