| A Note from our Principal |
|
Dear Parents & Guardians,
This is a busy and exciting time of year. Our Theater Arts Department recently did a great job performing "Tommy." Many of our fall athletic teams have qualified to participate in state tournaments and the winter sports season begins today. Teachers and students are also working very hard on a variety of projects and assignments. Please continue to monitor your student's progress closely and let us know if you have any concerns as we move through 2nd quarter.
In the weeks to come, our school community will begin working together to develop a new mission and vision statement for CDO. I would also like to develop a list of beliefs unique to our school. This work is being prompted for several reasons. Recently, school leadership worked to complete a self-assessment for the AdvancED Accreditation process. This assessment revealed the need for a well-defined purpose statement created by all stakeholders of CDO. The current mission statement has been challenging to use with required elements of the International Baccalaureate Program and other school initiatives. And, because I am the new principal at CDO, this seems like a very natural place for us to start a conversation about our collective goals, beliefs, and vision for CDO. This process will not be easy and it may take some time to complete. However, I believe this is necessary to preserve our "Tradition of Excellence" for years to come. If you have any ideas you would like considered for this process, please feel free to email me.
Sincerely,
Paul DeWeerdt

Websites of the week:
- aztransfer.com
- At aztransfer.com students can find out how their AP, IB or CLEP scores will transfer to any of the Arizona universities or community colleges. Another nice feature of this website is the "course equivalency guide" where students can see how their Pima Community College (or any other Arizona community college) credits will transfer to any of the Arizona universities.
- Degreesearch.arizona.edu
- Designed by the University of Arizona, this site gives students the tools to identify a major that's their perfect match.
- Net Price Calculator
- This calculator is specific to the University of Arizona, however due to recent legislation, all colleges and universities are required to have a cost of attendance, or net price, calculator on their websit
- FAFSA 4caster
This site, hosted by the federal government, will help you understand your options for paying for college. After providing some basic information, you will receive an estimate of your eligibility for federal student aid.
Another great opportunity....
CDO will be offering the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) for students on Tuesday, November 19 at 9:00 am. The ASVAB is the best aptitude and interest inventory available! If your student isn't sure about what career field he/she would like to go in to, this test can help them explore what they would be good at doing, and what they would enjoy doing (and where those two things overlap!). Please have your student sign up in the counseling office.
December SAT and ACT Registration Deadline Approaching
This Friday, November 8 is the deadline to register for both the December SAT and ACT. If your student is a senior who plans on attending a four-year university immediately after graduation and he/she has not taken either one of these tests yet, he/she should sign up for one or both of them this week!
Upcoming College Visits:
- Tuesday, November 12, 9:00 am - University of Arizona
- Wednesday, November 13, 9:00 am - Pima Community College
