Teacher Award

Congratulations, Mr. Yetman!

Mr. Yetman won a Math Hero Award from Raytheon Missile Systems.  He was one of only 35 teachers in the nation to win the award, which comes with a $2,500 grant for Mr. Yetman and another $2,500 grant for CDO!

The award goes to teachers "who have made great strides in instilling a love of math in students and for dedication to enriching math instruction in high schools across the United States."

CDO Preschool

CDO Preschool earned a 5-Star Raring under the Quality First Program through Arizona First Things First state initiative. This process has been a multi-year process that has taken us through 5 grueling assessments that covered areas such as classroom/ playground environment, instructional strategies, program/ classroom materials, program/ classroom structure, children's portfolios, children's assessments, family support, family involvement, and program policies and procedures.

Preschools from around the state have been assessed as well, and at this time there are only 5 programs including ours in the entire state that have met this highest quality rating.  This is a fantastic accomplishment for the CDO Preschool, and everyone involved is very proud.

The program concludes with the KEYS Research Showcase, where students present their results to their families, UA scientists and program sponsors. Previous KEYS interns report that the program has changed their lives and taught them that they are capable of making important contributions to science.

Counseling News

This week is College Week at CDO!

Did you know that education level has been shown to have a direct connection to median income? In 2009, the median of the earnings for young adults with a bachelor's degree was $45,000, while the median was $21,000 for those without a high school diploma or its equivalent, $30,000 for those with a high school diploma or its equivalent, and $36,000 for those with an associate's degree.

In celebration of the 20 colleges we have visiting CDO this week and to support our goal of promoting a college going culture on our campus, the counseling department is sponsoring College Week the week after fall break! So, tell your student to grab their favorite college gear and show off their college spirit every day this week! And, while they're in their college logo gear, tell them to come by the counseling office and visit the various college representatives that will be on campus throughout the week. Look for specifics about which colleges will be visiting below. It's never too early to start thinking about college, and these visits are for students of all grade levels! Please have your student go by the counseling office to pick a permission slip for each college that they want to visit with.
