The CDO Early Childhood Education Program is proud to announce that this past summer three students were able to attend the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Mary Carswell and Alyssa Sisson competed in the Early Childhood event and Rachael McCracken competed in the Teach and Train event. These students represented CDO and the State of Arizona wonderfully. Alyssa and Rachael came home with a gold medal in each of their events and Mary came home with a silver medal. We are very proud of them and wish them all the best as they head off to college this August.

CDO Preschool Earns 5 Star Rating
|
We are very excited to announce that CDO Preschool earned a 5 Star rating under the Quality First Program through Arizona's First Things First state initiative. This process has been a multi-year process that has taken us through 5 grueling assessments that covered areas such as classroom/playground environment, instructional strategies, program/classroom materials, program/classroom structure, children's portfolios, children's assessments, family support, family involvement, and program policies and procedures.
Preschools from around the state have been assessed as well, and at this time there are only 5 programs including ours in the entire state that have met this highest quality rating. This is a fantastic accomplishment for the CDO Preschool and everyone involved is very proud of this announcement.

There is a lot happening in the library as the school year is moving toward September. We have been able to start adding new books to the library collection and those are available for checkout to anybody from the CDO Community. Come into the library to see what is new.
The CDO evening tutoring program funded by the Pima Public Libraries resumed on August 19. We are open until 4:45 P.M. on Monday - Thursday evenings with extra help available in math from teacher Loren Seng and Spanish from teacher Lisa Aukee. The computer lab is also available for student use at that time, and a librarian is on duty to help students with research and finding books.
Both computer labs in the library have been refreshed with new computers and are looking sharp as well as running better than ever. Students are encouraged to make use of everything in the library, including the computer labs before and after school as well as during lunch.
Questions about the library can be directed to 696-5710.

The CDO yearbook class is enjoying a good start in preparing the 2014 yearbook. We are now working with Herff Jones as the publishing company. There have been some questions about senior pictures. CDO seniors are encouraged to have their senior picture taken with Rembrandt Photography. Rembrandt has announced the last day Senior Pictures can be taken as September 14.
Senior Ads or Senior Dedications are also a subject of question that has come up. Any parent or family of a current senior can place a dedication in the yearbook. The cost depends on the size of the ad. The yearbook will have the information mailed out to all families of seniors. Anybody who wishes for additional information can contact the yearbook advisor, David Alzner, at dalzner@amphi.com Or 696-5770. The last page deadline for the yearbook is submitted before we leave for Spring Break in March; it is recommended ads and issues be communicated as far before that deadline as possible. Senior Ads will need to be placed with the yearbook class by March 1 at the latest. You can also e-mail or call if you need additional information about senior pictures. Also, please know that the pages with class portraits are created and submitted in November; it is not possible to add student portraits after they are turned in
Anybody who wishes to purchase a yearbook can do so through the CDO bookstore.

| National Junior Honor Society |
The Canyon Del Oro National Honor Society Chapter will be sending out membership applications to Junior and Senior students of the CDO community in September. Applications are issued to any Junior or Senior student who has a weighted 3.6 or higher GPA and is not currently a member. Information about the application process will be in the school announcements. If there is a student who meets the GPA requirements and does not receive an invitation when they are issued they can visit with Mr. Alzner in the library to make sure nobody is overlooked. Parents of NHS candidates should mark Wednesday, October 2 as the night of the induction ceremony and try to keep the date open if possible for the ceremony.
Questions can be directed to advisor David Alzner, dalzner@amphi.com or 696-5770 or our new advisor, Tenaya Snider tsnider@amphi.com.
