News from the Counseling Department
Week of May 13, 2013
Congratulations to all of the seniors who are graduating next week...and to all of the parents who helped them get there! The Counseling Department would like to wish everyone a wonderful, and restful, summer break! We will see you again in the fall.
Summer School at CDO
Summer school registration is now open! Summer school will be held at CDO this summer and registration is handled on the CEP website at www.cep-az.org (hover over "Community Ed" at the top of the page and you will get a drop down menu that includes "high school summer school"). Information regarding dates, fees, and courses offered can also be found on the website. Please remember that if your student fails a course that is required for graduation, they must make up that course in order to ultimately earn their diploma. Summer school is a great way to make up that credit!
Online Summer School
The Amphitheater School District will be offering online summer school again this year. There is no fee for online summer school, but we urge you to consider carefully before signing your student up for an online class. Online classes require a great deal of self-motivation and a certain level of maturity in order for a student to find success in the class. If your student is interested in taking a class online this summer, please have him/her see their counselor before leaving for the summer to get a referral.

*Special guest coach, Claire D'Amore will be coaching the clinic.
Claire graduated college in 2004, earning a Health Promotions Teaching degree. and moved back to LA to pursue her lifelong dream of playing professional beach volleyball. Claire's hard work and dedication resulted in numerous achievements and awards, including:
- Top team of the 2005 New Zealand International tour
- Earned runner-up Rookie of the Year in 2007
- Consistently placed in the top 16 teams on the AVP
- Won two international NORCECA Federation events as USA representative
- 2009-10 finished top 5 in digs on AVP tour
- 2010 Paul Mitchell Award - top up and coming player of the year
- Won 6 CBVA Opens in a row
In 2010 Claire was a consistent top 10 finisher until the AVP fell on financial hardships, which lead her back to Tucson. In addition to her playing career, Claire has worked with numerous clinics and camps such as: USA HP Beach Camps, AVP Clinics, All-American Volleyball Camps, and served as a Director, Counselor, Instructor, and/or Guest Spokesperson.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GIRLS' AND BOYS' TRACK AND FIELD TEAM. The boys finished 10th and the girls finished 9th overall this past weekend. Congratulations to Drew Garcia who won first place in the mile and 2 mile. Congratulations to Meredith Alarcio-Caldon who got 3rd in the discus; Bridgette Doucet was 4th in the 2 mile; Oband Odol got 4th in the high jump, jumping 6'6. And congratulations to the girls 4X800 relay team. They were 2nd overall and crushed the school record. Way to go Sarah Boughman, Bridgette Doucet, Barbara Bruno, and Danielle Vallejos.

On July 12th, 2013 the Canyon Del Oro Football Team will be hosting their annual golf tournament at Oro Valley Country Club. The funds raised from this tournament will help support the needs of the DORADOS as they compete in another exciting year of high school football!
CDO FOOTBALL exemplifies the importance of academics, hard work and discipline. The young men in this program know that there is no short cut to excellence and playing football is a privilege. CDO players learn to push, support and compete with each other while most importantly learning to depend on one another. They depend on our community as well.

** Project Graduation party for the seniors is a week away and we need volunteer help.
** Men are needed to move tables and stage on Sunday, May 19th.
** Parents of freshman, sophomores and juniors are needed to help:
Register in the graduates
Serve dinner to graduates
** Senior Parents - can help with party after 9pm (after graduation)
Please don't hesitate - thinking other parents will help. We are short staffed and don't have enough volunteers to make this event happen. We need your help and would like to keep celebrating the seniors every year with this event. Please follow link below to sign up now.

Project Graduation needs your help
We are well below our target goal of 200 prizes.
Project Graduation is just weeks away and we are very excited to provide our CDO graduates with a memorable night. A big part of that night involves prizes and our goal is that 50% of the students leave with a prize.
This year we are extremely low on donations (money and prizes). The kids have made a wish list so we thought we would include that to make your shopping easy!
