News from the Principal

Dear Parents,

On Tuesday, April 9, 2013 the Amphitheater Governing Board appointed Mr. Paul DeWeert as the new principal for CDO beginning July 1. Mr. DeWeert currently is a principal in the Tucson Unified School District.  As an educational leader, he brings many years of experience and expertise to the position.  Please welcome Mr. DeWeert into the Dorado family.

This year's graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 21st at 7:00pm.  Families of the graduates are also invited to "Feel the Force" in the Star Wars experience hosted by Project Graduation before the ceremony starting at 5:00.  Graduation packets will be mailed out next week so be on the lookout.  There is information for both students and parents so make sure to review them for important deadlines.

It's been a pleasure to serve the CDO community the last four years!  Go Dorados!

Summer School at CDO

Summer school registration is now open! Summer school will be held at CDO this summer and registration is handled on the CEP website at www.cep-az.org (hover over "Community Ed" at the top of the page and you will get a drop down menu that includes "high school summer school"). Information regarding dates, fees, and courses offered can also be found on the website. Please remember that if your student fails a course that is required for graduation, they must make up that course in order to ultimately earn their diploma. Summer school is a great way to make up that credit!

Online Summer School

The Amphitheater School District will be offering online summer school again this year. There is no fee for online summer school, but we urge you to consider carefully before signing your student up for an online class. Online classes require a great deal of self-motivation and a certain level of maturity in order for a student to find success in the class. If your student is interested in taking a class online this summer, please have him/her see their counselor to get a referral.

Pima Community College Orientation

Pima Community College will be hosting a High School to PCC Orientation on Friday, April 26 from 1:00-3:00 pm at the Northwest campus. Seniors who are planning on attending Pima Community College after graduation should attend this event. All new Pima students are required to attend an orientation prior to registering for classes, and this orientation is tailored to meet with needs of incoming high school students. Students should fill out an application to PCC (this can be done online at www.pima.edu) and complete their assessment tests prior to attending the orientation. If your student is planning on attending this orientation, please have him/her sign up in the counseling office so that we can provide PCC with a head count. Transportation will not be provided.

Seniors who graduated 8th grade from Cross Middle School are now eligible to apply for the Debbie Clark Memorial Scholarship! The Cross Middle School Parent Teacher Organization will award up to four $250 scholarships to deserving CDO seniors that were promoted from Cross Middle School.
