Improving the Lives of Horses - and Their People - Everywhere
|
Paige is a 12 year old mustang living in California. Her case was brought to me for an assessment on her general health and wellness. She had quite a good health history except for one episode of sand colic in July 2015 after arriving at the retirement ranch. But she had no other episodes after that time. While most horses eat sand because of nutritional deficiencies such as silica or iron, for example, I could see and feel from her energy field that Paige had been eating sand because of an emotional problem. She was pent up with unexpressed grief and loneliness that no one knew about beforehand. Her behaviour was similar to an "eating disorder" you might say because she had no control over the situation. Read how Paige regained her control.

One of our biggest challenges is helping horses that are in a boarding situation. And while the barn rules are often not in alignment with maintaining healthy horses there are many things you can do to help. Keep the drugs, chemical de-wormers and vaccines to an absolute minimum. Don't feed grain, encourage 24/7 turn-out, always use slow feeders and make sure that your horse has physical contact with other horses. It's the least we can do.

Use slow feeders to ensure a natural feeding environment whereby horses can eat small amounts frequently without running out of food. When horses run out of food stress levels rise which then elevates cortisol levels. Cortisol slows down metabolism and blocks normal insulin production. Slow feeders
help to regulate weight, control insulin levels and hunger. They also prevent boredom, stress, and digestive ailments. Slow feeders are particularly important for metabolic horses, overweight horses, nervous horses, cribbers and for all other digestive problems. Riva's slow feeders are durable, easy-to-fill and easy on the horse's mouth. The bags are available in a 1-1/4", 1-1/2" and a 2" hole size as well as picnic baskets for ponies and Minnies.
Due to higher manufacturing costs and the Canadian dollar, slow feeder prices will be increasing to $124.95 for large bags and $99.95 for the Minnies after April 01.
Purchase at current prices now: Picnic Baskets for ponies and Minnies = $64.95 9" gusset by 1-1/4" holes = $94.95 9" gusset by 1-1/2" holes = $89.95 9" gusset by 2" holes = $84.95
