Minister's Letter
On Sunday, we probably had the shortest annual meeting in history. At the time the date was set we were unaware that it was going to be the day for the Democratic caucus in Maine. We had lots of folks who were planning to attend their caucus. To accommodate them, we moved the starting time up to noon and rearranged the agenda to get everything that needed their consent or vote on the front end and it worked well. We now have bylaws that are aligned with Unity Worldwide Ministries recommended bylaws. We have two new members to the board. Peter Clark was voted to a full term and Yvette Nadeau as an alternate, a one-year term. Returning to the board is Pam Mills to a full term and Barbara Kowalska as an alternate. Attached please find the President's report and the Minister's report, which were not read at the meeting. We are looking forward to continuing with the energy of love, compassion and nonviolence that this community emulates.
I am so excited that we are hosting Paul K. Chappell this weekend. Paul is an international speaker with a message unlike many. It is a message that peace is possible in the 21st Century. Paul offers new and practical solutions...he shares his own struggles of growing up with childhood trauma, racism, and his own rage. He leaves us with strategies, tactics and leadership principles to resolve inner and outer conflict.
If you haven't signed up to attend...COME...lunch will be provided each day and the workshop and lunch are offered on a donation basis...we want to make this available to everyone. We feel so strongly we are being called into a greater service to peace at this time in history and we need you to help us. If you have been wondering what is my purpose? or what is mine to do? come check this out!

Now a brief recap of Sunday's message. The topics covered were affirmations, spiritualizing the intellect and conscious and subconscious mind. We are using the book Keep a True Lent written by Unity co-founder Charles Fillmore for this talk series.
A little sidebar here. In the early 1900's Mr. Fillmore wrote Unityas a handbook of Christian Healing and Christian Psychology. The purpose of Unity is not to found a new sect, but to give people a practical application of what they already have through their church affiliations. Unity therefore stands independent as an exponent of Practical Christianity, teaching the practical application of the doctrine of Jesus Christ in all the affairs of life; explaining the action of mind, and how it is the connecting link between God and man; how mind action affects the body, producing discord or harmony, sickness or health, and how it brings man into the understanding of Divine law, harmony, health and peace, here and now. Unity explains how this power of mind action works by every man and woman, for it is as operative today as it was two thousand years ago (Fillmore, 1921).
Here is what Mr. Fillmore says about affirmations, "The affirmation of any good statement of Truth puts us in conscious contact with the Christ Mind and quickens and releases the light and energy stored up in the subconscious mind; then the process of redemption begins."
A great denial and affirmation is: "Fear has no power over me...I am safe in God and I am fearless".
Mr. Fillmore has this to say about spiritualizing the intellect, "As spiritual metaphysicians, we find that the Christ Mind is the Mind of Spirit. In the consciousness of man it functions as two states of consciousness: one in the flesh, the other in Spirit. But Spirit is the source of all."
"With this understanding as the basic principle of our thought, and realizing the power of thought to impress itself on the sensitive plate of man's mind, this prayer is invaluable:
"I separate myself in consciousness from the mind of the flesh, that I may enter into the mind that was in Christ Jesus."
And now, for the conscious and subconscious mind I invite you to listen to the talk by clicking here or visiting our website at
You are a blessing in my life,

9:30 am to 3:00 pm

This is an invitation to join with members of the Unity of Greater Portland community for a day of silence in community at Unity of Greater Portland. It is an opportunity to withdraw from the constant noise and demands of our lives and listen to our inner voice, the inner voice of our authentic self, the inner voice of God, however experienced. Being in community creates a supportive atmosphere that allows us to surrender into that silence. Being in silence creates a deeper sense of community.

Holy Thursday Celebration
Join us as the Unity community celebrates the conclusion of the 2016 Season for Nonviolence with the ritual and feast of Passover on Thursday, March 24, from 6:00-8:00 pm in Unity Hall.
The Seder (Passover ritual and meal) recounts the Hebrews' flight from slavery in Egypt to freedom in Canaan (The Land Flowing with Milk and Honey). Jesus of Nazareth was celebrating Passover (as had been done for thousands of years and is done by Jews to this day) with his disciples in an Upper Room in Jerusalem on the Thursday between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. It was at this feast we call the Last Supper that Jesus instituted Communion as he blessed the bread and the wine. So, this day is important to both Jews and Christians.
In New Thought, Egypt symbolizes ignorance and the flight to the promised land represents our willingness to be led out of this bondage. At the Last Supper, Jesus promised that giving his life and body would lead to regeneration of his people by using bread and wine as symbols. Paraphrased from "Keep a True Lent", Charles Fillmore.
The evening will include the traditional Passover ritual, hand-washing, and a 3-course meal. The cost is $10 to cover the ingredients. Reservation either signing up on the bulletin board or by emailing so we will know how much food to prepare. Limited seating reserve today!

Sunday, March 27, 2015 - 10:00 am
We invite you to join your Spiritual Community for a joyful celebration of Easter.  It will be a time to honor the resurrection of our Christ Consciousness and includes a flower ceremony.
Easter Egg Hunt

Winter Storm Cancellations

Storm Policy - If the local status is considered "winter storm watch", a decision will be made by 9:00 pm the night before by the Board President and Minister. As soon as the local status is "winter storm warning", we automatically close. This would apply to all activities at the ministry - Sunday and weekday events.
Definitions: A storm watch means that the weather has the chance of turning into a storm. A storm warning means that the weather has turned bad; and is headed your way.
Our policy is caution, we always want you to be safe in your travels. If you have questions about "IF" a class or service will be held due to weather conditions, you may call 893-1233 and press #4 for storm cancellation information. Of course, even if a class or service is being held possibly the weather is different in your location, so please, use your own best judgment and "Be Safe".

God is our Source and provides us with many channels of supply. Some of those channels are the following:

When ordering through Amazon, if you go through Amazon Smile ( and designate Unity of Greater Portland as your chosen charity, .5% of your purchase will be donated to Unity of Greater Portland.  It will show up as Unity Church of Truth, our official name, but it is us! This deal is not quite as beneficial as the old Amazon Associates Program but, if we use it, it will add up. This is a great way to still support UGP!

Do you shop at Staples?
Many members of our Unity family shop at Staples and collect a few "Staples Reward Points" each month.  But if you're like me, they seldom amount to enough to really save me much money.  Then I found out that I can use the Staples Rewards Number for Unity of Greater Portland.  My points are added to those of many other members and help the church save money on much needed office supplies.

Staples Rewards Number for Unity Church

Unity Recycles Ink Cartridges and gets reward for that too!

Also, if you want to you can drop cartridges at Staples
and use our number and we get credit there as well.

When you pick up a Clynk bag in our bookstore and
